1) Make sure that Windows knows you have 5.1 speakers. Go to start > settings > control panel > sound and audio devices. Under speaker settings click advanced and change the speaker setup to 5.1 surround sound.

2) Make sure that your sound drivers are set for 5.1 speakers. With a SoundBlaster, you can do this with the mixer. If you have onboard sound from Realtek, use the "Sound Effect" icon next to the clock (or if it's not there, go to start > settings > control panel > sound effect manager). If it's not there either, get the drivers here. They're generic and they'll work on all ALC### chips. If you have a motherboard with an nVidia nForce 1/2/3 chipset that also has Soundstorm, use the audio control panel from the platform drivers (unless the onboard sound is from Realtek, in which case Realtek's drivers are a lot better than the ones included in nVidia's platform drivers suite). I'm not sure how to do it on other sound cards so you'll have to look into it yourself.

3) Reboot as needed if you had to install any drivers. In Winamp, go to preferences. Under plug-ins > output, select DirectSound and click configure. You should now see "Speaker setup: 5.1" somewhere under device info.

KB 5.1 Channel v1.00:

http://kb.lysium.net/my/downloads/KB51Chn.exe

KB 5.1 Channel (some other version).

http://download.nullsoft.com/customize/com...nels_Output.exe

Try both!!, they're actualy the same, only v1.00 includes volume control.

Yup. Have you tried your sound card driver's speaker test to see if the centre speaker works at all?

Yeah. My center speaker works fine. SB Live! 5.1 MP3+ and Creative Inspire 5300

Works with games and such. Interesting....

I have my Creative Mixer set to 5.1 (tests fine) and Windows set to 5.1 surround sound.

yea i done it before..but maybe it's becauze i got realet a3.61drivers so now i`m downloading 3.63..but u know i saw before that in direct sound output it shows 5.1 speakers but it doesn't work...while in other output which calls wave output shows that there's 2 speakers..:(

i tried them too before..but in old songs it sounds like double-speed or smth..and yea it's like all speakers work...but sound isn't like 5.1

    • Microsoft explains the different types of Windows updates you get by Usama Jawad If you're a regular reader here at Neowin, you're probably well-versed on the subject of Windows updates. We cover them quite extensively, regardless of their scope. This has become even more important in the evolving threat landscape where AI is being used to exploit security issues in software, which now needs patch deployments more often than before. Now, Microsoft has shared a brief explainer differentiating between the different types of updates delivered by the company. The first kind of Windows update is Patch Tuesday, which is delivered on the second Tuesday of each month. A recent example of this is the KB5094126 update offered to Windows 11 users on June 9. Patch Tuesday provisions security and non-security content, and is cumulative in nature, which means that if you install the latest version, you'll also receive all the updates present in previous versions. IT admins can leverage various tools like Autopatch, Intune, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), and more to deploy Patch Tuesday across their organization. They can also utilize hotpatching, which ensures that only security updates are quickly applied and a device restart isn't needed. People also refer to Patch Tuesday releases as "B" release, quality update, security update, monthly cumulative update, and latest cumulative update (LCU). Next, we have optional non-security preview updates that become available in the fourth week of each month. They act as a precursor to the upcoming Patch Tuesday, enabling IT admins to test and validate the release before they deploy it more widely the following month. If you're on a non-IT-managed device, you can install these through Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates. People also refer to this update as "C" or "D" release, but "optional non-security preview update" is now the preferred terminology. Finally, we have out-of-band (OOB) updates which can be released at any time, typically to fix a major issue or a security risk. OOB updates are also cumulative, and while some are highly recommended, others are optional. Enterprise customers can leverage their regular update management tools to deploy these releases. Outside of this, Microsoft also rolls out Windows 11 features via annual updates, monthly updates, and the Microsoft Store. The firm uses Controlled Feature Rollout (CFR) to stagger rollout, and for enterprise customers, capabilities managed via this technology are usually disabled by default. Regardless of update cadence, Microsoft has urged IT admins to keep their organization updated and secure, and also encouraged users to join the Windows Insider Program (WIP) if they want access to the latest Windows 11 features.
    • Looks good. TOHO is finally making watchable Godzilla films.
    • Everyone is now using AI for bug hunting, what do you think has been at the heart of all the major zero days that's been discovered in Linux and the thousands of lines of new code? It's all AI or AI supported.
    • Next they'll be selling Huang Bucks. GeCryptoForce, and the Jensen Phone.
    • The mere fact that Google is against ad blockers and allows these annoying things on our browsers is just plain disrespectful. Ublock Origin is now available on Safari and Safari has gotten way better and faster with every release. I currently use Edge but the minute Edge gets rid of Ublock Origin and follows the Google road, I am permanently going to Safari, Brave or Firefox. I am not going to let these greedy bast...rds dictate what I can or cannot see on my web browser.
