My fastest is about 25 seconds with a fresh copy of windows installed, the main programs I use, and of course after I'm done tweaking it.

This is done in that speed with a 3000+ processor.

On my other comp, with an FX-57, it takes about 10-15 seconds with all the above done.

EDIT: This is also counting from as soon as I hit the button to the time I can open a program.(if i went from BIOS to windows with no hour glass, it would be more like 20 seconds for my main comp, 10 for the other)

My laptop boots hella fast.

My main computer takes a while though. It takes some time just going through the bios screen.

I've never timed it though as that is utterly the least important thing I've ever not considered to not matter at all to anyone ever.

was around 22 secs some time ago...

now with my new pc and setup its around 40 secs, didnt time it tho.

but its fast enough

i boot my pc like once/twice a day, i really don't care too much about booting times :D

WOW

27 seconds is amazing.

Mine must take all of 5 minutes to load up with anti-virus software, etc etc.

I would appreciate it if anyone could post some tips and tricks for clearing my computer of all of the rubbish, and allowing it to boot up quicker.

Are there any quick tests which I can do to highlight areas which need fixing?

format c:\, nah but seriously if your PC is taking that long to boot it is time for a format. Don't install crap you don't need and disable services that you don't use.

around 2 minutes, when i press the power button this is the process

2secs: dell logo

1mini sec: blank screen

20secs: xp loading screen the moving left to right

1sec: to click on username

1min and some secs: start up items, like msn, aim, logitech webcam & mouse thingy, konfabutlator, webroot spy sweeper, quciktime. i dont know why it takes so long for simple apps, but it's alright since the sucker is used once in a while, and i always hibriate it so it wont take as long anymore

Why can't I PM you?

    • I totally disagree. Very little good comes out of governments all around the world manipulating everything they can and usually the people are not the benefactors. What you say about being restricted and expensive sounds almost like the arguments against firearms and why banning them will protect people as if making something illegal somehow will prevent the criminals from having and using them. AI being far less mainstream could simply mean the average person will not benefit, but "big brother" and the corporations will benefit, which is almost for sure NOT a good thing.

    • "connect with audiences" is the most obvious corporate speak you can think of. I only bought Need for Speed from EA because it was the only racing game with cops in existence and I dig that. Now that they killed off NFS franchise, I have nothing to spend money on. EA is officially dead for me, just like Ubisoft which I've been boycotting for some 20 years now...
