"Lost" TV Show - Currently Season 2 (US aired)

i dont have a theory as much as i have a suggestion to the lost creators... for the love of god, hire someone that can do some decent CGI... from the polar bear in season 1, all the way to this black smoke... it's just god aweful, not realistic in any way (yeah i know.. it's a black smoke monster, not supposed to be real) but did you see how it retracted away from eko.. omg it was horrible. And dont even get me started on the polar bear.. i thought it was someone with a bear skin rug on their back... anyone else with me?

It's not smoke. Therefore their CGI on it is fine. It's not supposed to behave like smoke, that should have been evident from the very first time it was seen... It's was nicknamed the 'smoke' because that is the only recognisable thing it could have possibly resembled at this time.

Polar bear is a different matter as is the smoke from the signal fire.

As for theories, here's one I'll toss into the air which was popular with some crowds:

Exhaust fumes from a cloaked/invisible machine. This was a popular theory for explaining the way the smoke moves and the mechanical sounds you hear but it's been pretty much disproved now.

He faced it twice, first time he was ok about it all I guess, the second (episode 23) he crapped his pants.

The last time (I think?) he faced it, he was almost dragged into a hole in the ground by it. Jack and Kate had some dynamite and threw it down the hole, which released Locke long enough to get him to safety.

Whatever it is, dynamite seems able to at least distract it.

My lady reckons the smoke/monster sees the good or bad and decides your fate, also Locke said the island was wonderful after he'd seen it. So I think they get to see there past in the monster/smoke too, that's why Locke wasn't scared as he probably saw his life with the use of his legs again.

I've heard several theories similar to this.

1) In a previous episode it was said that the monster "only takes the good people" and it scanned Echo's past (as evident by the images that flashed) and it decided he was a bad person, and left him. This is supported by the fact that his brother said that he could not be saved by going to confession because he would have to repent, and also that he never did get to confess due to his brother being shot.

2) The other has to do with Echo saying "I wasn't afraid." The smoke scanned his sins, and saw that he has owed up, admitted, and repented (again tying into his brother earlier in teh episode) and this is what allowed him to be saved (from the smoke).

Quit with the black font and background. Unless you all work on the set of Lost, or live inside the writers minds, these are not spoliers. They are theorys.

On topic, it was suggested that Locke and Eko might be brothers. Hence the reason Locke saw the plane crash, and when he first saw eko they stared at each other pretty strange. Some suggest that Locke's dad went on a "Walkabout" in Nigera and hooked up with some Nigeran lady, and had Locke and Eko.

It could also be the reason that the Black Smoke didnt touch Locke or Eko

Anyone remember at the end of series 1, the crazy french lady says you will see black smoke ? :p

-Rich-

Isn't that after Aaron was born and refers to the column of black smoke which is seen rising straight up?

It's because she saw black smoke after her baby was born and then the Others came and took it away. After Aaron was been born she expected the same to happen (which it did, there was smoke, but the boy they wanted was Walt).

Quit with the black font and background. Unless you all work on the set of Lost, or live inside the writers minds, these are not spoliers. They are theorys.

A spoiler is what the name suggests. Anything which would spoil the show for someone who hasn't seen it yet. Therefore out of curtosy we spoiler key bits of information from recent episodes due to the East/West coast time difference and spoiler any theories which are based off this information. We also spoiler the synopsis and information pertaining to future episodes.

It could also be the reason that the Black Smoke didnt touch Locke or Eko.

Uhh, the black smoke dragged Locke into a hole when they were transporting the dynamite to blow the hatch.

Im in 2 minds whether to create my own lost fansite with the knowledge of whats happened so far...so nothing will be fake or anything leading anyone down wrong path...lol

I was contemplating designing a Lost-Fan Site a few days ago. ;)

Just read this article about how the producers need to have a decent ending in mind for the series so it doesnt end like X-Files did, with no real closure.

Yeah, I read somewhere that a writer said that we'll find out exactly why the plan crashed at the end of Season 2.

Has anyone heard anything about the possible secret crossover event that might appear on LOST & Invasion? I heard this morning on the entertainment report that there may be a possible clue or event related to one of the shows appearing on the other show. Sounds odd. Hmm.. maybe a Dharma logo will show up in Invasion or something..

I thought exactly the same thing, when I saw this image on the megalotto page:

But then I realised that it's just ABC promoting their new show :p

You can discount the chances of that. The megalotto site is nothing to do with abc, it was made by a fan. He's either also a fan of invasion or just trying to stir things up.

Yeah, that sounds like a cool idea. I've just knocked up a quick mock up design in 10 minutes - Click. It needs a hell of a lot of work, but I was just playing around, trying different ideas.

Only thing, is that I suck pretty much at coding and stuff.

Btw about the black smoke pulling Locke, if you remember he was almost upset when Jack and the others rescued him. Like it was bringing him somewhere important (underground anyone?). I mean if you think, why would it drag him to kill him? It certainly didn't drag the others we've seen it kill (it seems to prefer leaving them on top of tree's dead).

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.
