People can use Spoiler Tags whether they want to or not, how hard is it to put your cursor over the text?

The mod already said that there's no need to use spoiler tags for things that have already happened.

If you haven't seen the latest episode, why would you want to be in here anyway?

Plus, the tagline for the thread is "spoilers & theories, be warned"

this is by far the best, most thought out, theory ive seen yet... also one i cant help but agree with, what do you guys think?

that is the most thought out theory i have read, and yet i cant argue, nor have the knowledge to argue. it is a must read

While some of it is a bit of a stretch (collective consiousness, survivors having been cryogenically preserved for years), the reasoning behind the computer seems too logical to be wrong.

Do a bit of googling, and 108 minutes is indeed a standard orbit time for satellites, including NOAA's satellites. It's also how long it took Yuri Gagarin to orbit Earth once. So the idea that the computer on the island needs to download data from a satellite every 108 minutes makes perfect sense.

I'm not sure about the whole satellite theory. If it was launched in 1999, then this hasn't been going on for too long. The French woman, however, has been there for 16 years and the Others have been there for at least that long. All this equipment has been there for too long to just take data from that satellite. It's been going on for a long time. Desmond was there what? 5 years? And the guy before him was there even longer. So it's been going on since before 1999 (unless it's in the future, but they've left too much present day stuff in there for it to be in the future).

I don't agree with the comb theory either. Electrostatic charge can be built up by anything and I don't see how it would interrupt the collective consciousness (assuming that theory is correct too). I've also got to wonder if there's a comb somewhere in the hatch.

I don't agree with the cryogenically preserved for years either. Since even if that happened and it's far past 1999 so that the satellite theory holds together, Desmond hasn't aged any since Jack saw him last. Unless Desmond was in cryo too, but then he remembers coming onto the island.

kjordan2001 that was my argument exactly: Oested satellite went up in 1999, that equiptment has been there since the '70s...HOWEVER remember on the orientation video Dr. Candle says that they only had to start pressing the button after an 'incident' occured. HOWEVER the orientation tape is dated 1980.

Sure but that assumes that the movie is authentic, it could just be nothing but a red herring.

It's like the Bermuda Triangle...

On another note, I just finished watching 'The Stand' by Stephen King, and HOLY CRAP! There are SO many similarities between LOST and The Stand it's unbelievable! Everything from the characters to the dog to a mural, to the dreams... etc.. wow! Check it out if you can, it's pretty odd. Beware though, this movie has terrible acting and is pretty cheesy, but for a LOST fan the parallels are similar.

I read somewhere that the LOST creators have stated that LOST is "The Stand" on an island.

Here's my take on Locke, copied and pasted from another forum I posted at (I'm a slow typist - please forgive my laziness):

Locke's motivations are odd, and that makes him an interesting character. Most of the time he seems to really have his s**t together, but a couple of times when things don't seem to follow his ideas of what the island has planned for him, he really starts to crack. So far situations have usually turned back his way, but I'd hate to see what he'd be capable of if he became really desperate. Desperate men can be very dangerous, especially if they are as capable as Locke has become.

Another interesting thing about Locke's motivations is how close he plays his cards to his chest. Locke does a lot of seemingly altruistic things for people like making the cradle for Claire and such, but I recall that Locke made a comment to Boone when they were excavating the hatch about "we're gonna need him on our side" in regards to another character (I can't remember the exact ep so I don't have more clear info). What I'm saying is, is Locke only being kind to people to win them over for a conflict he sees coming? (Jack sees this conflict brewing as well, as evidenced by his telling Kate he needs to know if she's got his back during the scene before they blow the hatch.) And if Locke's motivation is to win people over, are his motivations selfish (ie. he wants to stay on the island), or does he really believe he needs people on his side because he's working for the greater good? And is his idea of the greater good a misguided one or not? Several times Locke has said "Don't tell me what I can't do!" If he truly believes that then he shouldn't tell the other survivors what they can't do (ie. he shouldn't tell them they can't get off the island). If I remember correctly, Jack used that exclamation at least once as well.

The most recent ep (2x12) provides some interesting material on Locke. If he's trying to get people to choose sides it explains why he keeps the Virgin Mary statues: possible bargaining chips if needs Charlie for some reason.

I was watching err..well the episode when Claire gets kidnapped, and Locke declares that there are two paths to follow, and that they should all go his way. Magically, he keeps on going on his path even when the trail disappears, going on "gut", and stumbles upon the hatch.... he even tries to get rid of Boone ... so perhaps it all ties back into the island using Locke... get him to find the hatch, replace Desmond and keep pressing the button... as he seems to be pretty eager to enter that code as well.

I hope lost doesnt turn all apocalyptic ... I expect a much more "normal" story (if we can call it normal!) Not something involving that "conciousness" hehe.

I remember one of the producers saying once "This guys get off the island. If it's an island"

:p

oceanic website has quote "taking you to places you've never imagined" and shows the raft and pillar of smoke. done on purpose?

THEORY: its all an experiment of survival... a reality TV show of 2009? or the 2009 truman show? truman was trapped by boundaries (his boat hit it and he got away), but on lost the others are keeping them in (when walt was captured on the boat, why did they also blow up the raft if they want them to keep off the island?!)

Now that is an interesting theory that I have never thought of.

I thought the Truman Show was a very underrated film.

The amazing thing though is with all of these theories, for some reason I think the one that actually comes true is one that no one thought of...

the others have never stated they want them "off the island" the closest thing to that is.... "this is our island, your here because we allow you to be here", so said our bearded friend.

and as far as them blowing up the raft.... why would they want them to leave? so they could get help and go back for Walt. The others destoryed the ship because they wanted to be sure that they got Walt and nobody else knew they had him or would be looking for him. id assume they didnt expect Michael, Sawyer, and Jin to survive out in the open ocean.

I put a warning in the thread's title to forewarn anyone coming in here that we would be discussing plots that have aired in the US. So if that is all we are talking about I see no need to put those in spoiler tags. Sorry for those non-US fans, but it airs here first so... nyah, nyah... ;)

Now if you want to post something that has not yet aired, then please spoiler tag it.

On topic, I don't think Charlie set those fires at all - doesn't he still have the tape around his fingers? That was the first thing I noticed, the fire starter did not have the tape.

in the shots after... when jack sews up charlies face ... no tape on charlies fingers

yes i did have to go back and check ... definately hooded bejeaned charlie lit them ... he later tells jack he did it

^But he admitted to doing it.

This episode just made me feel sorry for Charlie. Locke's becoming more of an arrogant jack*** than anything else.

this epi came across to myself and several others as a very feminist show. men are bad... men are stealing babies ...men are dropping their own child... men must be smashed by the dirty old man who is obviously moving in on a much younger lady ... happens all the time in real life ... and in lots and lots of cases the lady regrets her actions ... i have a feeling that is where the locke/claire thing is going.

i am quite happy there is no epi this week as i dont think i would be able to bring myself to download it . bad form lost scribblers

i think locke kept the drug for medicinal use, like if somebody gets hurt, jack can ease the pain with it

as far as i remember 6 people knew/know about the heroin..... nobody has told the doctor ... hmmmmm

Top left corner of the gif.

Did anyone hear brief scream when Locke was coming out of the hatch meeting up with Charlie?

door hinges creak then you hear a chicken doing its thing

    • Windows 11 is getting redesigned taskbar settings in new build by Taras Buria Microsoft is rolling out new Windows 11 preview builds in the Insider program, offering users new features and changes to try ahead of public release. In the Experimental channel (formerly Dev), Microsoft is shipping build 26300.8758, while in the Beta channel, users can download build 26220.8754. The changelogs do not contain much, but there is an important update to taskbar settings. Here is what is new in build 26220.8754: [Taskbar] Taskbar customization just got easier. As we continue to make improvements to the Taskbar experience mentioned last month, we've introduced a dedicated Taskbar Size setting, making it simpler to find, understand, and personalize your ideal taskbar experience. We've also made refinements to the transitions between taskbar sizes for a smoother overall experience. [File Explorer] We've improved the reliability of thumbnail previews for cloud files in the Details pane. The pane has also been reorganized so file properties are easier to find and review at a glance. Fixed an issue where the OneDrive shortcut in File Explorer stops working when File Explorer is run in administrative mode. Fixed an issue where the confirmation dialog might display an internal Recycle Bin file name instead of the original file name when permanently deleting a file. [Sounds] Improved system sounds when using Windows in dark mode. And here is what is new in build 26220.8754: [Smart card removal policy] Administrators can now configure Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and Windows 365 sessions that use Microsoft Entra ID (RDS AAD Auth) authentication to automatically disconnect when a redirected smart card is removed. This extends smart card removal policy enforcement to Microsoft Entra authenticated remote sessions, helping organizations meet security and compliance requirements. [File Explorer] Fixed an issue where the OneDrive shortcut in File Explorer stops working when File Explorer is run in administrator mode. [Taskbar] Improved reliability of loading the system tray area of the taskbar. [Sounds] Improved system sounds when using Windows in dark mode. You can find release notes for build 26300.8758 here and for build 26220.8754 here.
