Desktop Icons without Text

Recommended Posts

ok, herby

i still have the annoying problem of

i add a one of your regkeys but they don't follow the icon set i have set, (food's via tuneup04)

recycle bin works, ie doesn't (u can add it via right click + desktop and you get the iconed one but with text) and your's is no text but it's the ie blue one, this is the same for control panel, except of course you can't add it via the desktop - it's no name but doesn't follow the iconed thing

help? my computer + my documents also follow ie's behaviour

thank you

i put this in your other thread then realised my mistake :pinch:

Oh yea, here are some program/shortcut suggestions:

I'll add them to my list :) ,.. Alcohol 120% does'nt use Command Line Parameters, I can create an Icon, but without an enhanced context menu.
thanks!!!

nice job :D?:DD?:D:D

You can edit the Icons in the registry: in the DefaultIcon command from the CLSID (I explained this somewhere in this thread), but it's easier to change them with "Shell Object Editor" (See Post #1).

In the Thunderbird icon it should be very useful if you can select wich profile to load by right clicking on it...

Is it possible?

Maybe working on the registry? Dunno how to identify the command to load the client in each profile...

585028225[/snapback]

It's possible. :)

You can load a profile with this command:

"%ProgramFiles%\Mozilla Thunderbird\Thunderbird.exe" -p "ProfileName"

If you PM me the Profile names I can modify the reg file for you.

Great! Maybe I can do it by myself now that I know the command... thanks!

Hey herby can you help me? I tried your reg files and decided I'll keep the text silly me. Now though after going through remove all my recycle bin has a delete option on it. Obviously I have to save now your reg files incase I accidently delete the bin off my desktop can you help me get rid of the delete command that shows up on the menu?

i'm having problems changing the icon for my computer... i tried changing it from the registry, and apparently am not doing it right... could someone help me please?

Edit the DefaultIcon command:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000000-5000-0000-0000-000000000002}\DefaultIcon]

@="C:\\IconDir\\IconName.ico"

It's easier to change it with "Shell Object Editor" (See Post #1).

Did you know that it's possible to keep the text + the enhanced context menus? :p

Anyway,.. import the regfile from the attached zip file and the delete command is gone. :)

i've figured out how to create icons with the shell editor, but now i can't get rid of the name, can someone tell me how to do this? (i'm assuming this is registry based of course)

Give them an uncommon name like "Wuppy1" & "Wuppy2", search for the names in the registry:

Start -> Run... -> Regedit -> Edit -> Find... and Delete the values.

Refresh your Desktop and the names are gone.

Herby, I pretty well figured out how to do all except this I have 2 shortcuts  one DVD drive and one tomy CD-R drive and I would like to have no text under them.

Thanks for your posts makes for a great looking desktop.

Welkome to Neowin! :)

Same here: Give them an uncommon name , search for the names in the registry, delete the values and refresh your Desktop.

Photoshop CS Button is on the way... :)

To get rid of the current Icons, go to Display Properties (Right click Desktop & select Properties), select the Desktop Tab, click on the Customize Desktop... Button and unselect My Computer, My Documents and My Network Places.

Just a suggestion-- for Winamp you could add: "Jump to File."

Uhmm,.. it has the "Jump to File" command  , check Post #1 (Second Screenshot). :p

Here's one for Neowin!

z0cneowin.jpg

Installation: Copy the folder "Icons" to your Windows Directory and rename the Icon that you want to use to "Neowin.ico".

Import the "Add Neowin.reg" and Refresh your Desktop.

    • NVIDIA officially supports Ubuntu, as linked above with the GeForce NOW Hands on I did in collaboration with Paul Hill.
    • TO be clear I am not running linux today, however I keep thinking about it. And I want to make sure there are minimal obstacles if I decide to make that switch in the coming months.
    • Yes, I actually glossed over the Linux part from the OP. You could always go for a 9070 XT and if you really want to play Ray Traced games in the future, GeForce Now is pretty damn good on Linux https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidias-native-geforce-now-app-for-linux-bridges-the-gaming-gap-hands-on/
