for canada the issue goes a bit further since a complete ban will not happen in the near future. since canadians are forced to participate in a dysfunctional healthcare system, people that choose to smoke should also pay more in healthcare premiums. after all, healthcare premiums are insurance premiums. if you are in a higher risk group, you should pay more.

ah- cause it's good when the government controls every step of your life right?

if there's a smoking ban there should be a drinking ban-

i find it funny how there's a swarm of liquor ads- but smoking's got the ax most everywhere- hit liquor just as hard or smoking not at all

(imo)

- i voted no comment cause i'm not canadian and it wouldn't be fair

I voted definitely not. It's OK to ban it in public places, but anything beyond that would be a limitation of people's rights. It probably won't ever happen anyways, especially considering that we're on the verge of legalizing pot.

I think that all smoking should be banned and I'm a smoker. I started young and find it very difficult to quit. On the other side of the coin, some of the responses here are as hypocritical as the governments stance on banning smoking, yet permitting the sale of a harmful substance. I think someone would be able to set a precedence by eventually suing the government and settling the issue once and for all. If I had the money, I'd love to give it a burst since they mainly suck up to special interest groups anyway and this would be justice. Such is Canadian political life.

Just because a substance has somewhat of an acceptance in society, does not make it right. I think the sale of harmful products should be banned all together.

Definitely Not! (unless..)

I'll quit smoking soon enough. I usually make it a habit to find smoking lounges within Airports, and Civic centers. I abide by the law, and I'm able to satisfy my nicotine addiction. Don't take my smoking privileges away, please.

For the ban to work globally, each governing party should allocate funds for research into curbing nicotine addiction. They should make it freely available to every single smoker in the country. It should be 100% foolproof. Detox-centers (or getaways :)) should also be an option.

Until then, I don't think it's fair to ban smoking in both public & private places.

Why would I want to pay my tax dollars to fix someone who smoked there whole life?

They should pay for there own damn health care since the smoking is costing ME money

BAN IT

That is pretty selfish and may come back some day to haunt you. Careful what you say.

i'm not canadian, but for america, i hope smoking never gets banned.. think about it.. it's hugely taxed, and, again, i'm ignorant to how canada works.. but for the US, it's cheaper to pay for healthcare while someone dies from smoking-related illnesses rather than pay social security while they live to 95.. so, a bit morbid.. but more social security for me! (if there's any left, anyway)

be real, the goverment get loads of cash from smokers (taxes) they can't afford to lose it. and don't come with issues like healthcare costs will drop, because a smoker that needs to go to the hospital PAYS for his visit. so all you non-smokers should realise smokers pay more taxes then you do, so an alternative is to make those non-smokers pay for the taxes the smokers are paying. if your not prepared to do that, better come with a real good idea how to solve this.

i smoked for 9 years, i quit smoking for 14 months now. i quit because of my own health.

The thing is, if drinking is allowed (harddrug!) then why should smoking be banned? (private places i mean) for the public part i see why, but make smoker-only bars or something. if people have the right to use alcohol people should have the right to smoke aswell imo.

what do you ppl think?

In public places it absolutely should be, but stopping people from doing it in private isn't very realistic. You'd just end up with another unwinnable "drug war". I wish it would be though, it's stupid and disgusting. They recently banned public smoking in Lexington Ky and found the drop in indoor air pollution, metals, and other nasty stuff had dropped by over 90 percent. If people want to kill themselves with these things so be it but let them keep it to themselves.

i agree, if alcohol is legal then why not smoking. i also think that smokers should respect non smokers and not smoke inside restaurants but otherwise if the arguement against smoking is because it is bad for you, then we should look at a lot of other things which are also bad for us and maybe make them illegal..

    • Closed-loop cooling and a custom 800G network protocol let the $7.3B campus run as one AI training machine. Microsoft confirmed June 23, 2026, that its Fairwater campus in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is fully operational — and the engineering behind it makes the facility something fundamentally different from every data center that came before it. Where conventional cloud infrastructure racks up general-purpose servers and parcels out workloads to each one independently, Fairwater links hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GB200 Blackwell GPUs into a single, coherent cluster using a two-story building design, 800-gigabit-per-second Ethernet fabric, and a proprietary networking protocol co-developed with OpenAI and NVIDIA. The result, according to Microsoft, is the closest thing to a purpose-built AI supercomputer that any company has ever placed in commercial operation. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319205/20260627/microsoft-opens-fairwater-wisconsin-ai-campus-runs-one-supercomputer-via-800g-ethernet.htm
