Here's a shocker... You are gonna die...i am, you are, we all are...GET OVER IT...Stop trying to dictate what other people are doing... I am sick of you health freaks constantly bombarding the "evil" people because they aren't like you... whoopdeedoo... there is a bit of smoke in the air...That's not gonna kill you... the polutted air outside will...If you want to make a healthy difference, stop driving your BIG SUVs (or Hummers) and take a bus or a bike. That way you will do the world some good... It's you people, who are trying to make this world more oppressive, that are the problem, not the smokers... As for the people who complain "These people are using my tax dollars", it's not them...it's the people who are constantly going to the doctors for no reason, cuz they have a cough or fever... and the doctors them selve, who are unwilling to let the equally qualified nurses to do the same work that they do, cuz they want to make money, despite the fact that a qualified nurse is less expensive then a quack doctor. So... just ponder these few points before you jump on the anti-smoking bandwagon...

VIVE LA CANADA LIBRE!...

Point 1. We should need some statistics here how smokers-taxes weigh vs health care problems caused by smokers. but i made a wild guess. but i see your point.

point 2. It will be something that we look back to as a weird and bad habit. i definatly agree. but people will have to accept it, and for now it's just limiting a persons free will so to say. How would you react if you couldn't eat those cookies you liked so much. its a  weird thing.

I'll give you a link to our Provincial Government's website on smoking: http://www.gov.mb.ca/healthyliving/smoking.html

I believe it was on this site that I found some of the costs related to smoking on our universal healthcare system. I also read something at the Federal level too but I can't find the link to that right now, sorry.

I don't care where it's banned. As a smoker it would definately inconvenience me, however I do think non-smokers have a right to not put up with my smoke, so as long as I can smoke in my car and house I don't care too much.

I don't think smoking should be banned - people have a free will and choice to smoke.  There should be spcific sections of restaurants/bars/pubs where people can smoke, at the owners discretion - not the governments.

That's like having a "peeing end" of the swimming pool.

to everyone comparing smoking to other ills such as alcohol and poor diet:

yes, there are many bad things out there, and yes, we could talk about banning everything bad such as alcohol, dairy, sugar, caffiene, aspartame, etc, etc, etc. However, smoking has reached the point were it is no longer considered socially acceptable. So while we will not see a complete ban anytime soon. We are slowly working our way to the elimination of smoking in Canada. I for one will be glad when it completely eliminated.

While I ideally would like to see "the bad stuff" elliminated, I agree that as long as we pretend to practice freedom of choice, then each and every individual should be allowed to choose. It would be good though if people could be better informed before they make bad choices.

Trust me since 1980 and beyond everyone has been well enough informed of what smoking does, I knew I shouldn't start when I did yet I still did it. It has nothing to do with me being ignorant on the issue of smoking and more so needing something to do during boring as hell guard shifts(this was before the Iraq war so no naked dogpiles for me :( ).

However I'm not for actual bans on anything, while I myself am going to quit, I don't think anyone has the right to say I have to quit, or that I'm a retard for smoking and can't make my own decisions.

Keeping my smoke from harming you is ok keeping my smoke from harming myself is freaking stupid.

I have had personal problems in the past with smoking and drinking. I know people and family members that have died and know people that have died or had other problems because of smoking or drinking problems. My ex-wife smokes in her house with my kids. That should DEFINITELY be against the law...my kids are unable to make a choice about that, but my ex could at least go outside. I would love to see a worldwide ban of ALL toxic substances.

Is your opinion means drinking is socialy correct ? Killing people from drunk driving is socialy correct ?...

gimme a break !

while i do not drink, drinking is socially accepted. Drinking and driving is not - these are different. Much like smoking though, attitudes have changed. Now it is unacceptable to drink and drive where years ago on one thought anything of it. The same is now true with smoking in public places.

That would be a bad move because people have every right to smoke if they want to just like you have the right to use your computer when you want to im not sayin smoking is good because I dont smoke and i think its disgusting but if people wanna smoke let them its not fair to take away peoples rights like that

Recently I found out that they intend to ban smoking in all public places in Australia (or Victoria at least) over the next few years, and I cannot wait for it!

Every one of my friends is so pumped for this new law to come in. So, though I'm not Canadian, I still think you guys should bring it in too. Smoking is a disgusting habit in my opinion.

But, when I'm using my computer, other people around me aren't force to deal with the side effects of it.

When I go to a club and people are smoking and there is a low haze of smelly, digusting, unhealthy cigarette smoke lingering around, I am forced to deal with their digusting habit.

Smoking ovearll shouldn't be outlawed, but in it should be banned in public places so nonsmokers aren't forced to deal with the passive smoke issue.

If my father didn't smoke, I would probably be better off in college right now. I think he smokes about a pack a day which amounts to at LEAST 9 dollars a day. That's 3285 dollars gone out the window which could have helped me purchase a laptop for my education.

I'm now in financial need trying to raise enough money so I can get into my second semester of college and afford the required laptop for the course. If my father were able to financially support me in that, I wouldn't be worried.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • Ah. La Fontana De Incontinentia ! Bella ! Bella !
    • Hi everyone, I'm planning a small network upgrade and was wondering how others prepare their networks for future needs. Do you usually invest in higher-speed switches and better cabling from the start, or do you upgrade only when necessary? I'd be interested in hearing what has worked well for you and any lessons you've learned over time. Thanks!
