MatthewK
Hey Linux dwelling Neowinians. I just wanted to know what is the best audio player out there for Linux. I'm currently running Rhythm Box but I am not TOO happy with it =/ I wish there was iTunes for Linux ; ;
PureEdit
XMMS is pretty darn good.
markwolfe Veteran Posted October 19, 2004 Veteran Share Posted October 19, 2004 I use mplayer/gmplayer and am happy with it. Basic music/video player, and skinnable, I think (though I use it more from the command prompt than the GUI, to be honest).
Zerosleep
XMMS is the classic audio player for linux. Though if I wanted to use a console based player, I'd use Mp3Blaster. I've been using Rhythmbox lately because I find it easier to change between music with it (streams too).
ChrisArr
I've been using amaroK lately. I find it really quite nice.
shrike
I use XMMS because: a) I'm familiar with Winamp b) It plays music, and that's it (by default) c) I have all my music in 1 playlist, and just random play. Nothing special. It provides me with everything I need.

In fact, I think its possible to compile mplayer with xmms support, and then in xmms settings somewhere tell it to use mplayer for filetypes it can't handle on its own, and then xmms can play .wma files. I might be totally wrong, though, because I use mpd/ncmpc for my music needs.

slapnuts_ox
"Definately the GTK version of XMMS aka: BMP http://www.sosdg.org/~larne/w/BMP_Homepage" I completly agree however I recomend getting it from cvs as it is very stable in there. Still has a few features lacking but I find it to work pretty nice. Its basically turning into what xmms should have been turning into but isn't.
