To engrave or not to engrave...

Recommended Posts

Apple is currently offering free engraving if you order a new iPod so I'm just curious what you guys thought of this. It seems kinda cool but I'm not really sure if I will be keeping it very long, not sure if it would be smart to laser engrave something on it... I was thinking of just putting down "skybl4ck." or something to engrave but now I'm not sure. Maybe a quote or something would be cool. Please recommend me something to engrave or maybe tell me why I shouldn't choose to engrave it ;)

Well, how long are you going to want to keep your current iPod before you want to upgrade again? I certainly wouldn't want to pay a comparable price for an iPod with some weird word engraved on it if there was another without available, so you probably won't get much resale out of it.

i've kept my 2g 10gb ipod for nearly 3 years now i think. it really depends on how you react to new products... if you're willing to dump a 1 month old computer because you can buy it now with a faster cpu, then it's probably not worth it. if you can be happy with what you get, then i would do it, as an engraved ipod is easier to identify and rather hard to resell. i'd get name, phone number, and "$$$ for return" engraved on it.

do you really like the way that looks in the font they use on the back?

do you really love the name "skybl4ck" ?

i got my girlfriend a pink mini ipod for her birthday, engraved with "kellypod" (her name is kelly) ... i knew that's what she wanted and i also know she's not planning on selling it lol

the engraving looks really slick though.. kind of tiny on the mini to be honest.

i didn't get anything engraved on my 15gb ipod because i couldn't think of anything clever for it. it stays in my case right now anyway so it doesn't really matter for me.

but just make sure that you can answer "yes" to the above questions before you do that. you don't want to regret that later on :)
