He said it was his decision to use the tapes when it became apparent that acid reflux disease had swollen Ashlee's vocal cords. After consulting Wayne Newton's doctor, she received a cortisone shot to get her ready for the "Radio Music Awards," he said.

LMAO, and that's directly from the article... "after seeing Wayne Newton's doctor". My god, it seems even more flim-flam after hearing that...

LOL why do we care if it's Wayne Newton's doctor or not, they guy is a prick.

Milli Vanilli didn't ever sing their own songs.  Simpson does.  Britney lip synchs.  It never hurt her career.

Yeah but did britney spears ever got major focus on a "technical difficulty" like that? I mean, the voice track sounding before she got the mike in her face, then the "maybe if i just polka in their face, theyll forget about it" thing, then the barefaced lying at the end of the program when she blames the whole thing on her band. And the footage that spreads like wildfire at the speed of the internet.

I bet if something like that happened to britney, it would hurt her career, even more so because people would pick on her more than ashlee since shes so popular.

I wouldn't be using Britney as a shining example of how to do things right. The media already pokes a ton of fun at her for the marriages, the weight gain, and about 100 other things. People just really don't care, as a bad headline is the same as a good one. Everyone has skeletons in their closet, and its brought out tenfold where the media is involved.

Well I think if Ashlee wasn't Jessica's sister she wouldn't be famous.

This chick cant sing very well, and besides babe I got a better cure for her "acid reflux" ;)

She is one of many lip sync'rs Maddona is the queen of lip syncing and Brittney Spears is the princess.

I don't think Ashlee is finsished, but at first she blamed her band, especially the drummer, her band can play

I think they should just find a better singer and form a new group.

Again Ashlee will survive if not singing, then acting, all because she's jessica's sister and speaking of no talented bimbo's what talent does Paris Hilton have other than her role in that "homemade" video ???

That chick just creeps me out with her looks, like a real life mannequin....

I think this haloween I'm going to go as Paris Hilton and sing like Ashlee Simpson, now that is scary ! :alien: :boo:

madonna and britney lip sync cuz they have to dance and it would be impossible for them to have enough breath to do their dances and sing at the same time. its like trying to jog and sing at the same time. ashlee simpson doesnt dance, she walks around stage while lip syncing. i seen her other performances before and they all sound exactly like they do on the radio which isn't possible for 99% singers out their.

i don't see why this is a big deal. when any artist sounds exactly the same as they do on the album track, they are lip syncing. a lot of artists lip sync, these days singing talent isnt neccesary to be an artist. britney spears and j Lo can't sing either. they can perform but cant sing.

even rappers can't sound the same live when all theyre doing is basically talking fast, which is much easier than singing.

Saw one NewsService describe this as a "talent malfunction".

From what I did hear of the song, it reminded me of a Suzanne Vega ditty, can't remember the name of it.

I think the economics of the music industry today is driving such trends- record companies will only back a song as a commodity which has to be available to consumers in the most standardised, pristine form-the exact same product on Radio and TV.....live perfomance neccessarily involves unexpected variables; therefore they demand backing tapes and midi-tracks etc.

Its a long thread, so I don't know if it was posted already:

Ashlee: Acid reflux caused 'SNL' gaffe

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (AP) -- This time Ashlee Simpson sang it for real.

We think.

The 19-year-old pop artist was among a slew of stars who played Monday during the 2004 Radio Music Awards at the Aladdin hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

Despite numerous performances by big-name acts such as Destiny's Child and Alanis Morissette, Simpson was at the center of the show thanks to a glitch on "Saturday Night Live" last weekend that revealed she had been lip-synching one of her songs.

Monday night she told awards show host Carson Daly in an off-stage interview that acid reflux disease had made her lose her voice four hours before her "SNL" appearances.

She didn't seem concerned about her slip up.

"You move on," Simpson said. "Things happen."

During the awards show, she had fun with the slip-up. Before she sang "Autobiography" off her hit album, Daly reassured Monday's audience they were getting a live performance.

"Live, yes live," he said.

When Simpson's band started playing, the younger sister of pop starlet Jessica Simpson screamed, "It's the wrong song." Seconds later, she told a stunned theater filled with hundreds of people that she was "only kidding."

Earlier Monday, Simpson's manager-father told radio host Ryan Seacrest that his daughter used the extra help because acid reflux disease had made her voice hoarse.

"Just like any artist in America, she has a backing track that she pushes so you don't have to hear her croak through a song on national television," Joe Simpson told Seacrest on Los Angeles radio station KIIS-FM. "No one wants to hear that."

He said she's never used the extra help before.

Not uncommon

Saturday's incident exposed what many consider an obvious secret: that some singers who appear onstage aren't singing live at all, or at least have their voices augmented by backing tracks. And it's happened before on "Saturday Night Live," too, executive producer Lorne Michaels told The Associated Press.

"She was mortified and in her dressing room, but (producer) Marci (Klein) got her to come out for goodnights and explained that it wasn't the end of the world. It wasn't her fault," Michaels told AP Radio.

"Every artist that I know in this business has had vocal problems at some time -- from Celine on down," said Joe Simpson, also father of Jessica Simpson. "So you've got to do what you've got to do."

He said it was his decision to use the tapes when it became apparent that acid reflux disease had swollen Ashlee's vocal cords. After consulting Wayne Newton's doctor, she received a cortisone shot to get her ready for the Radio Music Awards, he said.

Billboard magazine noted that Ashlee Simpson also responded to the controversy on her Web site. "I can't cancel something like 'SNL,' " Simpson is said to have written in a posting. "You and I know that even if I synched on it or not, I'd still get seen by millions, maybe even make a few more fans."

The message board has been overwhelmed by both Simpson defenders and Simpson antagonists, the latter often posting vicious and vulgar messages. One contributor referred to a Simpson interview in Lucky magazine in which the singer was asked about lip-synching. "I'm totally against it and offended by it," she said. "I'm going out to let my real talent show, not to just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never lip-synch. It's just not me."

No politics

Politics didn't spoil the night at the Aladdin either, where rocker Linda Ronstadt was told to leave in July after praising "Fahrenheit 9/11," Michael Moore's unflattering documentary about President Bush.

Neither Moore nor Ronstadt appeared at the awards show but former pro wrestler Hulk Hogan made himself seen by wearing a T-shirt "Vote or Die!"

The two-hour show broadcast live on NBC. The nominees in each category were based on radio's top-playing songs. Radio program and music directors nationwide voted on the winners.

nice another milli vanilli .... i think she's done for... look what happened to them! they lip-sync'd and it destroyed their entire music career, but its not really a career if you don't use your own voice.

She should "blame it on the rain," instead of the band.

    • macOS ‘Golden Gate' unveiled with standalone Siri app, performance improvements and more by Hamid Ganji After months of rumors about Apple’s latest software updates, the company unveiled macOS 27 at the 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference. macOS 27 isn’t a major departure from the previous version; instead, it focuses on refining the user experience and fixing some of the annoying bugs users have reported over the past year. The new macOS 27 is named Golden Gate. When it comes to the list of new features, you should not expect a long one, as Apple has followed the Snow Leopard playbook from 2009 with macOS 27. First, the Liquid Glass interface isn’t gone; it's been updated to improve readability. It gets a new slider in settings to adjust Liquid Glass, letting you go from ultra-clear to fully tinted with ease. App icons also get an additional layer of Liquid Glass to look sharper. Smoother system animations, faster content loading, and a similar corner radius for windows are other improvements for macOS 27. With iOS 27, Apple released a standalone Siri app for iPhone users, and the app is also coming to Macs with the latest update. The all-new Siri AI app features a chatbot-style interface and aims to compete with Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. It supports both text and voice prompts and provides users with access to previous conversations for reference. The Siri app can also perform a wide range of tasks, including on-device search, image generation, information summarization, and more. Users can also rely on Siri for personal context. Siri is integrated with various apps, allowing users to complete tasks with a single prompt. With the screen awareness capability, you can ask Siri about locations and images on your screen. Which devices won’t get macOS 27? If you’re still using an Intel-powered Mac, we have bad news for you. macOS 27 is only compatible with Apple Silicon chips and drops support for Intel-based Macs. Here’s a list of devices that won’t be compatible with macOS 27: Mac Pro (2019) 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019) 27-inch iMac (2020) 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020) When can you get macOS 27? Apple developers can now access the first beta of macOS 27. However, the first public beta is expected to be released sometime next month. Users will have to wait until this fall for the stable version of macOS 27.
    • Who wants to pay higher prices for the same 6+ year hardware in a new shell? This is hardware where things change fast and improve continuously. They could update w/ quicker/more efficient compute, faster storage, new controllers with new features (not a shell/design update), which are all realistic possibilities. They've done mid-generation console updates, but all we've had for Series X/S are not just different configuration updates (storage / digital versions / console aesthetics). Instead they've prioritized acquisitions, increasing prices, and have lost quite bit of their fan base because of lack of vision.
    • LibreOffice developer takes a dig at Euro-Office in new open letter by Usama Jawad LibreOffice maintainer The Document Foundation (TDF) has often criticized Microsoft for popularizing the OOXML standard for documents instead of the truly open-source OpenDocument Format (ODF). It has also bashed the Redmond tech giant for putting its own commercial interests over everything else. Now, it has switched targets a bit to aim its sights at the Euro-Office suite launching tomorrow. For those unaware, Euro-Office is a direct fork of OnlyOffice. It is being marketed as an open-source "European sovereign alternative" to proprietary services like Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. It is being developed by a coalition of European companies including Nextcloud, IONOS, and Tuta. However, TDF has disagreed with this marketing classification in an open letter, saying that it is not the first open-source office suite being developed in Europe, as that honor belongs to OpenOffice.org, back in 2001. In a snide remark, it has emphasized that it feels "compelled" to clarify this because open-source initiatives should highlight transparency, not deception. It has stated that OpenOffice.org and LibreOffice are the only two "genuine" office suites with codebases in Europe, indicating that Euro-Office is a freeware clone of Microsoft Office that has rebranded itself to masquerade as a symbol of digital sovereignty. TDF has also remarked on the fact that those that are championing digital sovereignty now were very dismissive of LibreOffice and ODF a couple of decades ago: The LibreOffice has once again called out Microsoft for its "horrible" OOXML standard which locks in customers. Euro-Office also leverages this OOXML format, which effectively makes it an ally of Microsoft, according to LibreOffice. That said, it is unlikely if TDF's strong words will have any impact on the adoption or marketing of Euro-Office.
    • Apple finally brings the slider for Liquid Glass and many other changes by Aditya Tiwari Apple kicked off the official live stream of the WWDC 2026 annual developer event. The company began its latest wave of announcements with changes to the controversial Liquid Glass design language, which debuted last year across Apple's entire software ecosystem. A lot of people didn't like Liquid Glass when it first arrived on iPhone and other devices last year. The devices were plagued with transparency issues and whatnot. While Apple improved things over the year, it has now added a new Liquid Glass slider that lets you switch the transparency from clear to opaque. In other words, you can choose the amount of Liquid Glass you want to see on your iPhone instead of an on/off switch, which would only give you two choices. The sidebars now expand to the edge of the window. When you scroll the UI sideways, the refraction continues beneath the sidebar rather than being cut off at the boundary. Moreover, sidebar icons keep their color. Apple has changed the way Liquid Glass is rendered across the system. There is a separation between different layers, which makes buttons in the toolbar stand out from the background. Apple said it "deeply appreciates" the feedback it received from users and has made adjustments to Liquid Glass. New customizations allow Liquid Glass to improve contrast and enable a more vibrant appearance. The new icons have sharper edges, which addresses an old complaint that iOS 26 icons look blurry at smaller sizes. The upgraded Liquid Glass, Apple said, is building on last year's design upgrades by "integrating additional layers of Liquid Glass directly into the artwork itself." Apple's upgraded design language is available on iOS 27, which is arriving this year with no changes to the list of supported iPhones.
