MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- A plane owned by the Hendrick Motorsports organization crashed Sunday on its way to a NASCAR race, killing all 10 people aboard, federal officials said.

Eight passengers and two pilots died in the crash, a spokesman with the National Transportation Safety Board said.

A spokesman for a funeral home where the bodies were being taken said the dead included the son, brother and two nieces of Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, one of the most successful teams in NASCAR history.

not a big nascar fan myself, but im familiar with the Hendrick name. Hendrick owns such teams as Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson.

sad story, RIP.

This is very sad for NASCAR and the Hendrick Motorsports team. Jimmie Johnson, a Hendrick driver, won Sunday's race. He or his team didn't go to victory lane, they were told about the crash, when the other drivers found out about it.

Sigh, the whole Hendrick organization will be in a funk due to their engine builder being killed in the crash...

Will make it harder to watch next weekend, everyone will be in a somber mood. :(

Oh well, NASCAR takes another hit outside the track *sigh*
