Boot Operating System from LAN

Question

icyorange    0

Hi,

I'm planning on building a small system as an mp3 server, preferably without a HDD. How can i make the computer boot from an operating system on another computer? Would I need a network card with a ROM slot in it? Please advise...

Cheers,

Nick

you need network card that support bootp.

and then you'll need to setup a puter that will respond to bootp request.

i'm not sure if you can make complete working bootup and not just run setup...

if you don't want hd in that machine maybe boot small os from a floppy disk? maybe linux or qnx?
