Ollie64
Hi, I've not played Half Life (yes, I'm the one). In fact I know naff-all about the original game. My brother went on and on about how great it was when it came out but before I knew it I was into System Shock 2 and Deus Ex and the game passed me by. I've ordered HL2 via Steam so I'm wondering.... Should I play though HL1 before I get into HL2? I've got the option of downloading the "Source" version of the original, how much more of a better gaming experience will it be if I've played the first game? Thanks in advance! ;)
blackice912 Veteran Posted November 7, 2004 Veteran Share Posted November 7, 2004 I'd say play it, but I have a feeling that HL:Source won't be ready for a while. Might as well just start HL2 first. If you want a background story, I say google for the rundown on the original game.

Sorry, didn't know. In that case, play HL1 -- but play it quick so you can get to HL2. :p
Varsity
You don't *need* to, but it would certaintly help. :) Buy Silver off Steam an give it a go now.
Lanky
Well obviously it would be a little bit nicer to have played the first, especially if there are some nice nostalgic easter eggs :) Still, I don't think it would really affect your experience that much, it'll still be great. (Y) That said, I don't understand how any one could have enough will power to play right through half life source without touching half life 2. DrunkenMaster
I tried replaying it but on the newer faster video cards it makes me too dizzy. The overall plot isn't very complex but it is entertaining as a gaming experience. There was never much in terms of plot filler duing the game. Skip it and play the 2nd one. YBG
Yeah my friend was getting on me about this. He told me he couldn't understand how come I wanted to play HL 2 when I've never played HL, and that I MUST play HL first..
Lexcyn
I'm going to replay HL in parts over this week, to be ready just in time for HL2 next Tuesday morning. :p
Ayepecks
I thought Half-Life sucked, personally... I wouldn't play it before Half-Life 2. Maybe after, but I don't think it's worth it. They've said you should be fine if you haven't played the original, you'll just catch on a few more things in Half-Life 2.
bilston
It was great when it came out, but now you really have been spoiled by all the latest games to enjoy it at the level all of us fans do.:)
