Home Networking With Windows XP, This 5 Page Guide will walk you though the process step by step.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/us...net/default.asp

also..

Network Diagnostics Wizard

If you wanna test your networking setup in xp, you can use this

click this, it'll open up the Network Diagnostics tester.

You Must Be Running Windows XP To Use That Link.

Try reinstalling TCP/IP - then the network cards if needed. :)

What I meant was to remove the network cards from the device manager (uninstall them), then reinstall them, but it's good to see one of them works now. :D

hey guys

and update..

i have restarted that.. no luck.. i have uninstalled and reinstalled nic card.. no luck..

for some reason it gets an ip from some where.. i dont know where.. it should have 192.168.0.x ip.. its ip right now is 169.254.107.154

so i am thinking that it does not dectect the dhcp server.. :ermm:

anyone want a shot at this now?

Thank You ;)

yup, try releasing and renew'ing the IP. if that doesn't work, go back up to my post, and run the network diagnostics wizard.

The 169.254.x.x is an internal IP address assigned because the card cannot resolve a proper address. If you are using DHCP, you need to do a ipconfig /release and a ipconfig /renew at the command prompt. You can also do a ipconfig /all to see the status of your NICs.

Thats exactly right, try releasing and renewing a few times - if you keep on getting a 169 IP then there are problems.

what is the DHCP? is it a router? or ICS?

if you've installed all your nic's now, and you have an internal IP, re-run the ICS Wizard.

It's recommended to use DHCP when using ICS. The comp that is serving the internet connection should be the DHCP server. You could try assigning the IP address of the client to another address in the same subnet and use the IP address of the ICS comp as the default gateway.

hey

not really sure what you ment.. but this is what i thought u ment..

Client:

IP: 192.168.0.252 -- I assigned that

Submask: 255.255.255.0 -- I assigned that

Gateway: 192.168.0.1 -- I assigned that

here is a pic of what happend after that.. but internet is still not up but its pinging that comp now! :)

Thank You ;)

Some things to try - courtesy of the Ozcableguy.

  • Ensure any link lights are on at the card and on the modem
  • Ensure all leads are tested and proven
  • Uninstall any software that may be related to Internet or Networking, particularly firewalls & VPN clients
  • Uninstall any dial-up or dial-in connections
  • Check that there are no proxies configured in Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings
  • Boot up with your XP CD and choose the repair option

Good luck. :)
