Im gonna give FC a try to day also, gonna buy the Fc bible with the 4 cd's in it, or should i jsut Download it? :blink: But Im thinking i should just put this on another rig completely and still be able to fux with windows, But man im getting tired of windows

Another distro to give serious consideration is Ubuntu. I don't know many of you have tried it, but I absolutely love it. If you have a fast network connection the setup is great. You download a single CD and it sets things up, then connects to download the remainder of the packages. The distro is built on top of Debian (the soon to come Sarge release) and comes out of the gate with a very warm, clean interface. It's already set up with Synaptic using apt-get for package management. While my personal favorite package manager is definitely rug and Red Carpet, Synaptic is a very nice choice as well. It seems to be very stable and the repositories are nicely laid out and easy to understand with tons of options already built and ready for use thanks to the large Debian community. The root account is disabled so everything is done with "sudo". If you really hate this you can always enable it by changing the root password. At any rate, this is definitely my distro of choice right now.

Yes the concept it called a "Live CD" and its available for Debian (which is what Ubuntu is and why its getting such glaring ovations) and Gentoo as well, and I believe Arch has one as well.

hypoxiaicon, I live CD is this: you download a miminal CD with enough data to get your up and running. The rest of the necessary data is then dowloaded off their servers. This ensures a minimal first time download and that you get the latest packages always. Look at it this way. Instead of installing Windows 2000 with IE, you can install it with IE6 SP2. Instead of installing Windows XP and then installing SP2, you could just download and install XP SP2 off the bat...

Those are the advantages of live CDs. You are always guaranteed to have the latest packages and files right from the start. To all your rookies out there, if you stick with Linux, you are going to be quite impressed in what it can do when compared with Windows.
