freeza
if you use the Standby feature in windows does your fan turn off? because mine doesnt and its annoying that it runs ALL the time. and i was wondering if there is a way to make it turn off when i use the standby feature. on my old HP the fan turned off so when i used standby it was like the whole computer was off except for the blinking light in the front. but on my Dell Dimension 4100 the fan stays on all the time. (unless i power down or hibernate of course)
SlashDot14
same thing on mine but that would be nice for the fan to go off. i don't know if it's supposed to or not though. I seem to recall that when I first got my computer (Dell) it did. After I did the first format I think it stopped.
ahodes1
I could be wrong but I think it has to do with the BIOS. I remember when I had a Gateway when win 98 came out that there was a toggle for that in the BIOS.

Usually under the power settings.
Avian
If you are using XP, when you are in the shutdown selector, hold down shift to show the "hibernate" button. Use that, it works really well.
