Halo 2 ending [Spoiler]

Recommended Posts

Those who say NO MORE HALO MISSIONS need to read the game's title again and again. HALO. H-A-L-O. The rings are HALOS and the game is all about those rings. If you want EARTH missions why don't you find a game that have earth battles. HALO is not much about EARTH but more about the RINGS. So I bet that Bungie will be making more battles on other Halos in Halo 3.

Halo 1 was the story of finding Halo and the release of the Flood.

Halo 2 was the story of the Arbiter, and the uprising within the Covenant, along with the discovery of another Halo, but no extremely dangerous release of the Flood this time (both the humans and Covenant were better prepared). It also shows how the aliens are more like us than we had thought. It ends with the separation of John from Miranda and Sergeant Johnson (who are now buddies with the Arbiter) and also Cortana, who is now waiting for a need to blow In Amber Clad and High Charity to kingdom come, while also toying around with Gravemind, taking in some more info on Halo, the Forerunner, and the Flood without having him stop talking.

If you listened to the dialogue in Halo 2, you'd know the Covenant didn't expect Earth to be the human homeworld. But now they know it is.

Halo 3- the real battle on Earth. And I swear to god, if Bungie has another 10 levels on a Halo I'm going to kill something.

Thank you for actually explaining. :D

Yeah, but we get the whole point that Halo can destroy the galaxy. We've played through so many areas there, it starts to drag, especially since there really isn't any epic feel to fighting on a Halo. Sure, it's huge. Sure, it's a cool concept. But besides deactivating it (which we now know can be done very easily), there's nothing else to do on them. Earth would be a fantastic battleground.

  • 3 weeks later...

I just wanted to add my two cents to the fray, and contradict the people who think Earth is the Ark.

Maybe it only came with the preordered version, or maybe no one read it, but in the booklet titled "Conversations from the Universe", the second 'conversation', the letter called 'Artifact on Coral' talks about an object, probably a building, found deep beneath the surface of a planet named Coral. The explosive blasts used in the archaological digs on Coral uncovered the tip (30 m or so high) of a building that wasn't even marked by the blast that evaporated the surrounding rock and dust. The writer of the letter believes that the building is older than anything made by the Covenant (so it very well could be Forerunner).

Anywho, I believe that this building is probably the Ark mentioned at the end of Halo 2. I also think, no, I know that there is going to be a Halo 3, and the first level is going to be Master Chief fighting through the Forerunner ship that he landed on at the end of Halo 2.

The second level is going to be the Arbiter, and he is going to find Cortana and put her in his suit for safe-keeping. Cortana will have discovered a likely location for the Ark, and she will tell the Arbiter and they will then commandeer a ride to a distant planet, which turns out to be Coral.

A little through the game, maybe by the third level, the Gravemind will, in a film scene, be observing an egg/chrysalis/pod-thing, and a super-flood will hatch from it. This super-flood will be a merging of Elite and Human, and will have the use of an energy shield and will become a third playable character in the Halo games, and also a new type of multi-player character. This particular super-flood will be a test for the Gravemind, who will then try to mass-produce them, and MC and the Arbiter will end up having to destroy them or something.

Also, back on the topic of the Ark, in the letter, the author writes "There seems to be a complex of galleries and vaults beneath, but so far, its secrets remain sealed like a tomb." This makes me think that a few Forurunners will be found inside, either dead from old age, because they've been trapped underneath a planet for so long, or they will be in some sort of stasis. I think that because the Ark was something designed to save people from the flood in the Bible, so why wouldn't the Ark in Halo 3 be somewhat similar, although in the case of the Halo series, it saved people from what was supposed to destroy the flood.

Of course, I'm probably totally wrong. I do have a tendency to read too much into things, and to make things up, but I think that my thoughts would make for an interesting game!

I had forgotten about this thread, but yes, I agree with your theory on the Ark. It is probably the building found on Coral- a monument made out of an indestructable alien substance.

If it isn't that, it's the ship Master Chief rode from High Charity. I seriously doubt it's Earth.

Also, I believe you are right about the Forerunner returning. Actually, I agree with most everything you said, except for one part: Gravemind's cross-breed. I just don't see that happening. I don't see the point.

My mistake :p

4th book comes out soon but some other book related to it came out. sorry :)

Ill announce it when it comes out. Ive actually got (or what i believe to be) an ebook of it but im not sure yet.

Also: nobody has mentioned the ending after the credits (or if you all havent been bothered to check it) Where the big green strange plant is saying "you will tell me questions" or some **** and then cortana goes... "ok...ill talk" and then that suspensful music that leads up to a black screen

Gravemind: "Silence fills the empty grave... now that I have gone..... but my mind is not at reast.... for questions.... linger... on.... I will ask. And you will answer!"

Cortana: "Alright. Shoot."

*fade*

Excellent teaser scene. Can't wait to see where it leads.

Yeah, I'll agree, my cross-breed was somewhat farfetched, but I like to let my mind get away from me every once in a while (all the time). Oh well, whatever they do to Halo 3, I'm sure it will be awesome. I just hope they don't rush it, or Fable it (say so much good stuff about it, then remove all the best features everyone was looking forward to).

What exactly is Gravemind? I never heard what he says during cutscenes since he mumbles in a deep voice, and I don't have subtitles on.

And in the SE manual, there is an encoded message from a prophet. Anyone have the whole message decoded?

Gravemind is a massive, omnipotent flood. I think he may have been an infected Forerunner. Also, he's absolutely ginormous. I don't have subtitles on, and I can hear him pretty well.

That incrypted message is Regret's apology to the other Prophets. They talk about it in the game. I don't have the translation handy, though :(

Halo2 was great and yes, the ending did dissapoint me, but after 5 minutes i was happy again with multiplayer,

i knew from well before the release that they wouldnt finish it in halo2, and personally i think thats great, we get another halo game:D

i would *not* like it to be a xbox2 launch game, i prefer the games that come in the middle-end of a console's life, because those are usually the best.

btw, Halo3 isnt bungie's next project, although thier next project will be a first person shooter that will have online play* they are gathering programmers and artists now, also HUD designers and level designers, although they are artists too, i meant artists as in 3d modellers and texturers.

*subject to change, obviously, but thats what its set at right now.

    • Do not enter the code under any circumstances, or you will be sorry. It's definitely and most likely a hacking attempt.  That happened to me a couple of years ago, and I kept receiving those prompts for months. It's simply the attacker trying to get you tired of the constant requests, so you just give up and enter the code, so they can log in to your account.
    • Ah well, who needs computers in the next 10... 15 years right? At this point is just money laundering.
