Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW 20" Widescreen LCD

Recommended Posts

For all the people still contimplating buying this monitor. I just sold my 21inch Sony Trinitron CRT and bought 20005 WIDESCREEN. I've been staring and playing with the monitor for two days straight. I can't stop looking at it. IT ROCKS!!! No regrets what so ever. I'm running it with GFORCE3 64mb and it still looks great. No dead pixels, no ghosting.

One question though. In the review screen shots, the "Finding Nemo" screen is completely filling the monitor (i.e no black bars on top and bottom). When I play the DVD in my computer (btw i'm connected through DVI cable) I still have bars on top and bottom plus I have bars on the side.

PLEASE HELP ME! I REALLY WANT TO WATCH MOVIES ON THIS THING!!!

Most likely your DVD playback software thinks you still have a 4:3 display, so it's showing the 4:3 version, giving you black bars on top and bottom, and only filling up enough height, so that you'll also get some on the side.

Check the preferences to see if there's anywhere you can select a 4:3 or Widescreen aspect ratio.

i think the only problem i have with this monitor is that it has a 600:1 contrast ratio. i expected higher.  Also if anyone wants a chance to get this monter for 20% off, PM me!

Is that this monitor only or do you have discount for all dell products?

Ask and I might have except for the $1 LCD Coupon ofcourse. I have like over 50 coupons from DELL. I just ordered this monitor so i dont have use for my other LCD coupons.

update: i have backlight issues. BUT its not bad at all when watching widescreen movies. here is a pic: backlight

it looks worse than it actually is. here are some pictures of it while playing spider-man 2.

it has no dead pixels, do you think it would constitute an exchange/return?

knowlege, I would return it if it bothers you. Bad backlights on lcds bug me to no end because I generally use wallpapers that are mostly solid colors and such. I become obsessed with imperfections. If you find that some of these are shipping with perfect backlights (they look to be totally random), then I would definitely return it until I got a good one.

thanks for your reply soncomet. it seems that only on certain angles that the backlight really exposes itself. its hardly noticeable most of the time, hence a few of the spider-man 2 pics, IMHO i think it would be too time consuming to keep returning/exchanging. but who knows, i have 30 days

Jesus I'm so ****ed off. A dead pixel I could handle but on my screen instead of dead pixels I have this red line that goes all the way from the top of the screen to the bottum on the right side of my screen.

Call them up and I believe you will have a new one shipped out to you next day.

Man Dell support sucks. I have yet to speak to anyone who's first language is english. Its so hard to understand what they're saying for both the customer support and tech support. Tech support doesn't sound like someone who knows about computers and just some call center person.

DO not call them. You will end up speaking to someone in india who doesn't know ****.

Just email them [email protected] and they will send you a new monitor.

Man, that was the most difficult conversation I've ever had over the phone. I'm about to burst. Good news is that they will be sending me a new monitor but couldn't give me any details on a tracking number. Idiots.

Whats your Rev. # and Manufacturer Date? It's listed on the sticker on the back of your monitor.

Mine is Rev. A00, MFG date : October 2004.

I don't have any dead pixels but I have slight backlight bleeding. I'm currently debating whether to exchange it or not.

And that is the price we pay to get technology at the prices we get it at (EX: Under $600.00 for this montior)

I have been told if you tell the rep that you can't understand them, and it isn't their fault, but you need to talk to a represenative where english is their first spoken language, they will transfer you to a call center in the US.

    • I think this will appeal to a lot of enthusiasts. If the thermals are similar to those of a single system in a compact case, many people running multiple systems may choose to combine them into one machine, provided the case footprint remains reasonable.
    • No, "a great deal" for 32GB of DDR5 is $50, not $350. I mean I see what you mean, that it's a decent price compared to what's currently available, but you really should put a disclaimer in this articles explaining that it's still multiple times more expensive than it used to be.
    • Linux 7.1 stable launch looms as Linus Torvalds releases the final release candidate by Paul Hill Linus Torvalds has just released what’s expected to be the final release candidate of Linux 7.1, rc7. The Linux founder said that this RC is not small, but smaller than recent releases, which is a good sign because he expects the stable version to drop next week if things continue on this trajectory. Linux kernels see a merge window for the first two weeks of their life, where developers add new features, then there are about seven or eight weeks of release candidates before the stable version. Typically, there are seven release candidates, but if more time is needed, then an eighth release candidate is released too. This week’s RC’s biggest area of fixes was for GPUs, with networking just behind. Torvalds said that the rest of the release was “pretty random and spread out” with some architecture fixes, driver fixes, filesystem improvements, and build fixes for more unusual configs. In terms of specific pieces of hardware receiving improvements in this update, we had more AMD Zen6 models supported and fixes for AMD SDMA 7.1 and GFX11. Hardware that got improvements includes Lenovo laptops, HONOR laptops, and MSI laptops. Here are the changelogs for those: ASoC: amd: acp: Add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 15ASH11 Input: atkbd - add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Air 14 (83QK) Input: atkbd - skip deactivate for HONOR BCC-N's internal keyboard ASoC: amd: yc: Add MSI Raider A18 HX A9WJG to quirk table ASoC: amd: yc: Enable internal mic on MSI Bravo 17 C7VF When the stable Linux 7.1 is released, it will be up to distribution maintainers, such as Canonical and Red Hat, to release the update to their users via the update manager. Some versions of Linux will get it before others, and some will never get it at all. Fedora and Arch-based distros will be among the first to get it, though. If you don’t get it, the security fixes will be backported to your system’s kernel, so you won’t be at risk, but you won’t get newer hardware support, which is fine if your computer works now.
