Hey guys, just a quick question..

Is there anyone out there with experince with music making on the computer? If so, what would be the best program to make some realistic sounding bass beats, along with a few snares? I'm not looking for anything in the techno-type, just interesnted in making some good sounding hip-hop beats.

Fruity Loops and ACID do the same thing: they take *.wav files of individual instruments and you map them out on a time scale to make beats. Very fun and very easy to pick up. The major drawback, though, is finding good samples to work with. I've been using ACID for about five years now, and although my collections of sounds is growing, my lack of suitable drum sounds (to me anyway) is the major factor keeping me back from making more beats. It's sometimes tiring to search the internet for royalty-free samples, and it's tedious ripping them from a keyboard. However, after finals this week it's gonna be on during winter break. PM me or email me...I'll give you a link where you can check out some of the beats that I've made with ACID as well as song songs that some of my friends have produced. That way you can get an idea as to what's possible.

All Hip-Hop by the way

Can you import a voice sound file with a beat?

That's easier to do in Acid than in FruityLoops.

I'm going to agree with the others here and say that the drum sounds in most samples available are subpar, even on Sony's own discs. You can do pretty much anything you want to do in Reason, which sounds better to my ears, so I'd spring for that.

Reason is your best bet in my opinion, but its definitely not easy for a newcomer to music producing

Whereas ACID and FruityLoops let you sample already produced beats, you produce the beats completely in Reason, yuo make your own melodies, bass lines and drum patterns and you can sequence them all into a finished song.

Only minor setback is you can't import mp3's or wav's onto the sequencer like you can in ACID, so you can't put vocals into the sequencer. But there is a workaround for this, a module called ReWire which is built into the Reason installation allows you to join the Reason application to any sequencing program (such as ACID) and they auto-sync the timeline and when to play and stuff, and so you can have your vocals input in ACID, and your production work in Reason, and hear how they sound together. Pretty good.

lol @ you lot.

To get you started, download this > http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/down...ep2.asp?DID=491

Mess about, chop them up etc, just learn.

As for reason/flstudio, either they're assuming you have a few hundred dollars/pounds to burn or you're prepared to use pirated software. These things are free.

Have fun.

Def. give Fruity Loops a try. It's easy and you can get good sounding music with that. For example, take 9th Wonder. If you don't know how he is, he is, imo the best producer (hip hop) right now and he uses Fruity Loops to create his beats. I think he is actually the most sought after producer besides Kanye West.

fruityloops and acid are not the same kind of program. you can make your own beats in FL if you want, just like reason. while it is true they both use sample, FL uses samples of instruments like a kick drum , or a bass, to write your own parts with, while acid samples premade time stretchable loops. if you want to really make your own music, get fruityloops or reason. if you want to pile premade loops on top of eachother, have a great time with acid.

you must have the creative processes of a sloth then mate. Only imbeciles like yourself can find such limitations in a program like acid. i'd love to hear your music. You obviously don't have a creative bone in your body (or you simply have never used acid.)

Edit : clicked your link........U2 fan. Nuff sa:laugh:ug:laugh:ugh:

    • Ocenaudio 3.19.3 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display.
