Did my sound card driver get reconized...?

Recommended Posts

System: Windows SP2

Sound card: C-Media CMI 8738

Download&installed drivers & utilities from c-media site

Everything went smooth, sounds clear and good, all c-media utilities work, can add effects, adjust volume for each speaker

Except that XP sound/wav playback only use front speakers

When i go to Control Panels >> Sound and Audio Devices and click on "Speaker Volume"

microsoft site says

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...t_speakers.mspx

? The number of speakers for which you can adjust the volume depends on your sound card.
Does this mean driver didn't get reconized or windows simply doesn't support this or all C-media cards...?is there any way to have speaker volume for all speakers inside sound control panel and have system/wav plackback on all 4 speakers...?

[ a little off topic : Company claims that it supports A3D, DirectSound3D and EAX-isnt DirectSound3D is part of MS DirectX? if so, wont it be supported by MS Windows ]

Thanks in advance for any help/tips and thoughts

Here is what i see:

I think you need make adjust from c-media control panel and not from windows, but also you need verify some patch in c-media website or see your faq too

C-media doesn't have control panel, they provide task bar app called "mixer", which does decent job of adjusting sound[ looks a bit ugly and can't adjust volume bars with arrow keys unless you make them global/hotkeys ]. So far i wasn't able to find any patches that would patch windows sound control panel to recognized 4 channel audio card, as i said previously[may be i'm wrong but] by not having control over 4 channels in windows control panels leads to that the system alerts/sound/wav playback is only using front 2 speakers. Windows Media Player have no problem playing other media files[mp3, avi, wma] using all 4 speakers...

As for c-media website, faQs and their drivers:

This is the latest driver they have up on c-media website and clean SP2 setup with only audio and graphic card driver and diskkepper, anti virus installed-nothing else...

Of course FAQs on web site doesn't cover my type of problem

P.S.: The images i attached previously, there is Advanced button saying "Select the speaker setup that is most like the setup you have on your computer, changing that to quadraphonic speakers or Surround sound speakers" doesn't help :D

yep dude, well I have in my mobo onboard also C-media but six channels 9739A and it is amazing trust me and came with one app named C-Media Mixer fantastic with several effects on it, but I don't use it because I have one creative SB Live Value PCI that is better of course IMO and also I use now drivers for Audigy2 and works fine here simply amazing, once I have one external power amplifier Sony with 100W rms and four big acoustic boxes really I have one Disco here hehe.

well, maybe your could try use drivers for C-Media 9739A and your app too to verify if works, but for your own and risk equal mine when try using drivers for Audigy2 if not works then is more easy you buy one creative sb live too is cheap since that you have one pci slot also of course, try dude (Y)

    • Why? Does anybody actually want this? The constant need to close all browser sessions and wait for a new version to install, just so that there’s a integrated coupon manager feels like a waste of everyone’s time

    • Microsoft about to radically change how often your Edge browser updates by Paul Hill Microsoft has just announced that starting with Edge 152, it will be moving to a two-week release cycle for faster, smaller updates. This faster release cadence will begin on August 27. This change comes just several months after Microsoft switched Visual Studio Code to weekly updates. The company said that the Extended Stable releases will remain on an eight-week cycle and that no admin changes are needed to experience the faster release cycle on the Stable channel. The new two-week release cycle will enable the faster delivery of security updates and platform improvements, all while reducing the size and complexity of individual updates. Microsoft claims that organizations will benefit from this change as it offers predictable validation cycles. For organizations that prefer a “more deliberate pace”, the Extended Stable channel remains an option. This change will affect Edge Stable releases on Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile. The Extended Stable channel will continue to be updated every eight weeks, or every fourth Stable release, for example: versions 152, 156, 160, and 164. The Extended Stable could be a good option for organizations that don’t want the latest updates twice a month and don’t want as much hassle constantly updating browsers. In the case of Visual Studio Code, many of the updates being pushed by Microsoft are AI-related. As we all know, Microsoft Edge has a lot of AI features, so we could see Microsoft pushing more AI, thanks to the faster cycles. On the flip side, quicker releases could mean faster security updates, which is beneficial in a world where AI systems are hunting for software exploits. What do you think? Let us know in the comments. For more updates on Edge, be sure to follow Neowin's coverage. In May alone, we reported on Edge offering in-browser pop-ups to assist users with website compatibility issues, that Edge was losing Copilot Mode, and that Microsoft had fixed a plain-text password bug in Edge. • not yet, because at the moment it is not a threat to MS, if and I mean if it did become a threat to MS Office, then it may be a different thing. MS don't like competition
