Hoopla
So my 120GB WD External HD just started clicking all of a sudden. Sounds like the motor has issues. When I connect it to the PC Windows cannot detect it anymore, just give me an error. This was my backup drive so it kinda sucks as I'll have to work hard to get all my stuff organized again. Is there any way to revive it or have I lost the data on it for good? :(
OPaul
If the BIOS isn't detecting the drive and it's clicking it's doubtful you'll be able to get anything of it. One of the needles has probably gotten misaligned or something like that. There are things like putting the drive in a freezer that some people say helps. Run the manufactures diagnostic software on the drive and if it's still under warranty you will get a free replacement.
Hoopla
Freezing it? Ha! Cool! I'll try that.
Edmond Dantes
if you can take it out of the case, you might be able to try it inside your computer....
