N. Korea alleges ?smear campaign' by Washington

Associated Press

Tokyo ? North Korea is re-examining its participation in six-nation talks over its nuclear programs because of what it alleged were U.S. efforts to bring down the regime in Pyongyang, North Korea's official news agency said Monday.

Three rounds of six-nation talks aimed at persuading North Koreans to halt weapons development have taken place since last year but without a breakthrough. North Korea boycotted a fourth round that was scheduled for September and analysts say Pyongyang was probably holding out, betting on a change in the White House.

According to the state-run news agency, KCNA, a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman denounced Washington for its ?smear campaign? and accused the Bush administration of trying to topple the North's reclusive regime run by leader Kim Jong Il.

?The U.S. frantic smear campaign against the DPRK reminds us of an eve of its aggression against Afghanistan and Iraq. This heightens our vigilance,? the official said, referring to the country by its official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

?Under this situation the DPRK is compelled to seriously reconsider its participation in the talks with the U.S., a party extremely disgusting and hateful,? the ministry spokesman said.

North Korea withdrew from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty in 2003 after Washington accused it of running a clandestine nuclear program and cut off free oil shipments promised under a 1994 deal in exchange for a freeze of the North's nuclear activities.

The two Koreas, Japan, China, Russia and the United States have since tried to resolve the crisis with talks in Beijing ? to no avail.

U.S officials recently met with North Korean officials in New York to convey Washington's readiness to resume the negotiations and its commitment to resolve the issue diplomatically. KCNA said the talks were held on Nov. 30 and Dec. 3.

Monday's KCNA report appeared to indicate Pyongyang's reluctance to continue with talks ? reiterating a decision announced earlier this month to hold off on nuclear negotiations until the United States changed its ?hostile? policy toward the country.

But as far as most Americans are concerned, and as far as I am concerned, the Korean government is evil. EVIL!!!

Once you've drawn that line in the sand, it's rather hard to negotiate. George Bush might as well declared war on all three nations (Iraq, Iran, North Korea).

That's exactly what America needs. To heighten the vigilance of North Kor:rolleyes:yes:

Labelling the countries in the "Axis of Evil" was one of the stupidest things that Bush ever did.  And there is quite some competition to that claim.

It sets the bar pretty high too. I mean, Germany, Italy, and Japan were just the Axis nations. Axis of evil? That's even worse.

You have to define these issues in terms of good/evil or black/white. Otherwise how can rally the syncophants?

America aint that honest either.

I'm sure that the fact that America does things wrong also is a huge comfort to the North Koreans who straved and the people who were kidnapped because Kim was busy indulging his sociopathic delusions.

I'll go out on a limb and say you are not a part of the North Korean Government (which is what Pseudo said Americans believe is evil), but if I mistaken, then yes. Yes you are a part of an evil organization.

divad, if he lived in N. Korea, he wouldn't be on this site. In N. Korea, there is very little outside contact, primarily to keep the people supporting Kim Jong Il by making them think that they are the richest country in the world. Even though they are starving, they think we are all dying and even worse off. Them seeing this site would cause problems.

I believe "Sara" is female but none the less, of course you are right, I just wanted to colorfully back up that DPRK is evil.

But evil is a word used far too often. It all too often also is just used in the cases of "i am opposed to that so it is evil" or in the labeling of something not understood.

It is all perspective. If N. Korea is evil for isolating themselves, etc, then America is evil for forcing itself onto the world.

I agree. We need to be more careful of using the "evil" moniker. Hitler was evil. Dr. Evil was well... evil.

Especially with Hitler. Comparisons to Hitler are far too easily made these days. It deminishes the scope of Nazi Germany.

Watch it, comments will receive warnings in the future.

Not every country is honest, that was my point. I chosed america, because im living in america, now, i could've said japan since they are also guilty of doing war crimes to korea, but america just came up on my mind first.

Nothing personal.

Well, if America had its way, North Korea would disappear, and we'd have Korea. Actually, China probably would like the same thing. And given their organization at this point, it might happen some day.

I just want to know how it is you know this....

If they are indeed so intensely self contained, how do you know the views of the average north korean, that they believe the rest of the world starves?

Don't read this as a defense of North Korea, just caught my eye.

No I won't tell him that. You could have told him something very similar to that in a much more mature way, but instead you chose name calling. I am sure that since this thread is about N. Korea, that it should be implied that when he said "Korea" he was referring to the North.

Again, if there was a thread talking about how evil East Germany is, and i said germany was a terrible, evil country, wouldnt you get angry also?

So let me ask you mr.mod, if lets say, i poked fun at america saying its greedy, racist and other stuff and that guy told me the same manner i did, you would probably edit my post since i talked bad about the country you lived in and that guy would get off scott free.

585106389

If you think that I'd edit a post just becuase it was negative about my country then you haven't been hanging out in RWI issues very long. Most post reagrding the US are negative.

Again, if there was a thread talking about how evil East Germany is, and i said germany was a terrible, evil country, wouldnt you get angry also?

585106398

Well, considering I am not German and my last connection to that country was an ancestor over 100 years ago - I'd say no.

The point here is not that someone said something negative about a country, it was your name calling when you didn't like it. That hasn't changed and I won't tolerate it. If you want to continue this PM me about it.

It is quite obvious that I was talking about N. Korea.
