PSP Defects Reported

Well the video is a good evidence.  Enough so thatweb site are using it as a proof of allegations.:))

ABC and a half!

one video does not prove that everything sony makes is crap, like several people are claiming.

keep trying and a half!

got a ds to give it a test run and its got jst as much bugs as wwas reported with the psp.

i usually dont buy a electronic til its been aroudn for at least four months. those ones usually have less kinks then first few runs. had to send my ds back it wouldnt even run. so i think im gonna wait til probably 3 to 4 months after the psp has been in japan til i buy an import. and we all know all the complaints from psp are from imports anyways. could have easily been damaged by curriers

does the umd actually fly out? from the vid, the slot just pops open and the umd slides out. it doesnt fly out and thus "hit someone in the eye"

It only flys out when you are holding the PSP so it faces down (as in the second video they updated it with). Otherwise when you're holding it upright (as in playing it normal) it just pops open, that's all. Not a defect, more like stupidity if you're trying to break your new $200 handheld. People are just grasping at straws here.

And you have proof to back up this statement?  Every piece of Sony equipment I have (TV / Amp / DVD / PS2 / PStwo) are top notch and have never failed once.

Sony are definately (Y)

Then you are an exception because I and alot of people have nothing but problems from Sony hardware.

Everyone is asking why you'd twist a PSP.  This is supposed to me a mobile product, right?  Let's say you have your PSP in a backpack or pocket and it gets twisted a little for whatever reason.  Out pops the cartridge and now you really have a possibility of ripping out the whole mechanism.

As far as the first batch thing, companies have extensive testing laboratories.  If the mass public starts accepting shody workmanship because it's "first run", then we might as well be their testing lab and get paid for it.  Release a beta or something.  Let people know it's not the best you can do.  Unfortunately, the reality is that the accountants jump in and want to start making a resturn on their research dollar and (thanks to people like the ones posting here) there is no backlash to releasing a bad product because, hey, it''s "first run".

Agree im not a DS or PSP fanboy but this its bad for sony

I've already said this and I'll say it again. I have had nothing but problems with every Sony product I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot of them. I keep giving them a chance for some unknown reason. It is the same for all my friends and family. All of thier Sony products have broken within a year as well. I take very good care of my stuff, so it's not like I am beating the crap out of it and it breaks. Even if that were so, why has my Panasonic cd player lasted 3 years and on 3 seperate occasions my Sony cd players have had something go wrong with them in 6 months? Same with headphones, speakers, a camera, and an original PS. I'm not a fanboy, I'm buying neither console, but how can anyone compare the quality of Nintendo's products to Sony's? My NES and SNES STILL run great to this day. Those of you that have had good success with Sony, godd for you, you're lucky. But that definitely hasn't been my experience and everyone I know.

I did not read any of the replies on this thread, but i just wanted to say.

Whatever the defects/problems with PSP there are now -- will be gone when psp comes to US.

so just chill out and wait for usa psp which most probably will be exactly as its suppost to be.

and for every person like you, there's another who has bought tons of sony stuff, and it all still works great. my portable sony cd player i bought in 1998 still works fine. but so what? i'm sure there are lots of cd players from 1998 still working. the point is, like someone said before, every new product has had problems. every sony, nintendo, microsoft, whatever product. so there's really no point in arguing.

A large amount of 'Sony' product is made by Sanyo. VCR's and Playstaions are alot. The PS2 Sanyo lasers often get replaced in service for far superior quality Sony lasers.

Often the PS2's that come in to service are either faulty SANYO laser (which sony replace free of charge) or people have kicked/dropped/knocked them, and on the odd occasion a main board fault.

In my opinion Sony's Marketing dept is probably much bigger than the engineering one!

Some people are obviously ignoring bigger details here. Others are focusing on one point. I just watched the second video in which a person was playing RidgeRacer. The disk seems to pop out with relative ease. IE there is no extreme change in color of the nails or fingers to show excessive pressure. Given that it is being held at a downward angle, what's to say that a PSP isn't thrown in a backpack at a downward angle? The fact that the PSP ejects the disk and still functions normally shows that there is a faulty in the locking mechanism. I have a sony dv camcorder and I honestly do not like the force required to put in a tape, however it's secure at every angle. Anyways, there is another video in which the PSP turned on but nothing happens. This is another problem I think even moreso than the former. Also, the placement of the buttons seems to be interesting and mind you it is not in Japanese, and unless they made various versions of the hardware having buttons placed at different lengths from the screen, that is something that affects all PSP's. Something like this should have came up while they were testing the product. Also, Sharp makes the screens, so it's not necessarily Sony's fault for bad pixels. I believe the same is likewise with Apple's bad products as well, such as a batch of powerbook batteries manufactured by LG. The DS' problem seems to only be dead pixels, which I highly doubt it is Nintendo that manufactures the LCD's. My experience with Sony's products leads me to have expected this. My friend has gone through many PS2 lasers. Not exactly sure why that is the most prevailant problem, but Sony doesn't seem to do too well on certain types of it's lasers. Also, Sony's battery problems are not only with the PSP. I've seen a laptop made by Sony that guaranteed at least 2 hours of battery life. It was a feature rich laptop and was over 2,000 USD, but regardless, for that price, a better battery wouldn't hurt, and it is probably the same source for the PSP battery. Also, if these people did infact import those systems, they may have payed much more than people are posting here. Perhaps the Japanese notice these flaws and prefer not to publicly acknowledge it as well, Regardless, the PSP has problems, those that payed more than what it's worth seem to be disgruntled and Sony has yet to respond.

Is it just me, or is it totally wrong that people say "it's ok that the PSP is SO buggy" (or any other device) just cause it's the first generation? Cause I think whenever you buy stuff from such a high profile company, I think the least you would expect is to get a quality product. I mean, can someone that actually paid the $$ for a PSP state that "oh, it has a lot of bugs, and I'll probably have to buy another one, but I don't care cause it's first generation".

That's just wrong to me, or I might just be wrong. What do you think?

Bit of an issue with the square button too...

http://www.gamesarefun.com/consoles/psp/square.jpg

As you can see, it's off-centre, and sticks over a portion of the LCD screen. This means that the button can't be fully pressed down, doesn't register presses properly, and could potentially crack the screen over time.

Actually, I read somewhere that those pics were discovered to be fake, and photosoped.

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.

    • Not sure what country you’re in but in many countries you can absolutely jail the sellers behind businesses… in fact I’d say in most countries you can do that
