prz
Now I've been a CRT user for years, but I finally caved in. I bought an LCD. Now the average person might ask why I buy a DELL LCD. That's because I got a 25% coupon, and it comes with a 3 year warranty at no additional charge. With shipping and California taxes the monitor was 290$. This is an upgrade from my 19" CRT, but the view space is actually smaller than the 17" LCD. Packaging: Nothing special, UPS brought it - needed to be signed when they brought it at the door. Came with everything you could need for the monitor. It came with both VGA D-Sub and DVI cables. I went ahead and took the VGA out and plugged in the DVI to my Radeon 9800 Pro. The Stand: Very neat stand. It can be moved up and down, and can be tilted completely. I for one don't like the tilt as it creates too much vertical space. I left it at default. It's VERY sturdy and the base itself will NOT move unless I pick it up. The Monitor: The monitor itself is beautiful, It's bright, and colorful. This monitor wouldn't appeal to most people because it has a 25ms response time. I have played on it, there is a tiny bit of ghosting, but nothing to interrupt my gaming. I've played games on my friends various LCDs, and <20ms I can't see ANY ghosting in games. There is only a small amount of ghosting on mine. I was fortunete enough to have no dead pixels, and the backlights seems normal. It's absolutely fantastic. It makes my CRT look dull. The Conclusion: If you're looking for an affordable, aesthetically appealing monitor. The Dell Dell UltraSharp 1704FPV is for you. I strongly encourage anyone to go grab one. 9/10 Edited December 18, 2004 by XxiNickxX
Vlad
Cool review, I'm in the market for an LCD this winter! I know I could find these myself, but could you include some of the specs of the LCD please? That would be the icing on the cake :)

.fury
From my experience with dell LCD's they are very good - in fact, I don't think I've come across one with any dead pixels or other defects.

IK47
why did they make the 1704fp worse than the 1703fp? the 1703 has 13ms response, while the 1704 has 25. other than that, they only difference I see is the stand.
