[NCAA] Another blow to the BCS

Recommended Posts

Apparent concern over the Bowl Championship Series process had led The Associated Press to pull its football poll from the BCS system used to select the national title game and the three other BCS bowls, The Boston Globe is reporting.

BCS coordinator Kevin Weiberg, the commissioner of the Big 12, told The Globe he has received a letter from AP indicating it wasn't comfortable being part of the process.

The move would take place starting next season. The BCS is expected to make a statement later Tuesday.

The eight teams selected for the four major bowls -- Orange, Rose, Sugar, and Fiesta -- are picked by the BCS, which uses a combination of the AP poll (voted on by writers and broadcasters), the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll, and several computer rankings. Each segment receives a one-third weighting in picking the teams.

In the wake of Texas leapfrogging Cal for a BCS bowl bid, the Charlotte Observer announced it no longer will vote in The AP poll.

They should not have removed strength of schedule. If you beat easy teams and go undefeated, you do not deserve to go to the national championship. Playoffs will never work due to money. The +1 Game idea is the best they've come up with so far, and it sounds fair.

I think they should set up a playoff system where each game is a "bowl game" and the further into the bracket the bigger the name of the bowl game...beginning bowls should be the "Champs Sports Bowl" and later games are the "Suger", "Rose", etc....that way each team gets paid when they lose, and keeps progressing to higher paying games.

Not a bad idea, but that means a school will make tremendous amounts of money over other schools who would've been in that bown instead,

The only thing they actually did wrong this year was putting Texas in instead of Cal and leaving undefeated Boise St. out.  Yes, Boise St. did face some easy teams, but they remained undefeated, so they should be in there.

bleh...u forget about the most dominant defense in the nation: auburn

per game though, auburn allowed 11.2 pts. vatech 12.6.

and just so people don't misunderstand me, i didn't mean the person who has the best defense is the best team in the country, but when i look at a head to head matchup, ie osu vs. miami, or lsu vs. ok, i always pick defense. those past two years i was right.

i like the way auburn has played after breaks. they had a week off before goergia and dominated them. and 2 weeks off before the sec title game and scored a td in less than a minute. auburn will have to have a very impressive showing againt va tech AND oklahoma has to win.

i think the reason why auburn isnt playing in the national championship is because williams/brown/campbell arent as glorified in the media as much as peterson/white and bush/leinart. its sad really...2 teams OU struggled against(OK St. and A&M) get dominated. A&M got trampled by a injury-plagued tennessee team who had to go with their third string freshman qb. cal got their asses handed to them by a texas tech team who finished tied for third in the big12 south.

sorry...im still distraught over this whole thing.....i really know how usc felt last year

    • I don't hate the new menus, I am not a fan of the lack of features and how they went live when they clearly are not complete. The menu itself presents much better than the previous - but what's lacking (IMO) is: 1) Any kind of automated manipulation such as: "this goes on the new menu because you use this feature more often on this filetype" "this is rarely used and will fall back to the old menu" 2) Any kind of user manipulation such as: "a UI to add/remove/order items to the new menu"
    • The biggest issue in this version of Win 11 context menu, from usability standpoint, is the movable row with basic commands. Think of a car analogy...if You turn the week left the infotainment screen will move right and vice versa. With how it works now Microsoft made something forbidden in designing in any UI, software or hardware. I can't grasp who were the morons within Microsoft suggesting it was a good idea and gave it a green light.

Or else go further and easily build dynamic 3D illustrations and special effects. It's as simple or as powerful as you want it to be. Base is the database front-end of the LibreOffice suite. With Base, you can seamlessly integrate into your existing database structures. Based on imported and linked tables and queries from MySQL, PostgreSQL or Microsoft Access and many other data sources, you can build powerful databases containing forms, reports, views and queries. Full integration is possible with the in-built HSQL database. • Amazon eero Pro 6E mesh Wi-Fi system 2-pack is 27% off by Ivan Jenic The Amazon eero Pro 6E mesh Wi-Fi system is currently $239.99 on Amazon for the 2-pack, down from $329.99. That's 27% off and $90 saved for a solid Wi-Fi solution that covers your entire home (purchase link down below). The 2-pack covers up to 4,000 square feet (372 square meters) and supports 100+ connected devices, which handles the vast majority of home setups without breaking a sweat. Wi-Fi 6E brings access to the 6 GHz band for lower latency across the network, and the 2.5 Gb Ethernet port supports gigabit+ internet plans if your ISP offers them. eero's TrueMesh technology handles traffic routing automatically, so you're not manually managing which devices connect to which node. You set up the entire thing through the eero app, and the entire process takes a few minutes. The system also receives automatic security updates in the background, so once you set it up, you don't have to worry about compatibility issues. If you're covering a larger home or want more nodes, the 3-pack is $329.99 and the 4-pack is $479.98, both at similar discount levels. It's worth mentioning that a newer model exists, which is likely the reason for the discount, but the Pro 6E is still perfectly capable hardware for most homes.
