installing internet(cable) from clean install of XP

can anybody help me out? i need to find out how to install of cable internet on clean install of xp to help a friend out, is there any software needed, or what is there to do? thanks!! ladr

Totally depends on the ISP. Does he normally use a login client to connect to his cable network?

If not, it should just work after you plug the modem in, install the network card and install TCP/IP.

Some Providers may also require you to put in a comuter name for example my old isp required me to put in the box cr824366-a before you could use it (after all the net card drivers and stuff were installed). Usually the software install disc will do everything for you

there's this wonderful thing you pay for when you get services like this: support :D

Check out their website (seeing as you're at least online :D ) and see if they have setup instructions there. I'd assume it's all DHCP'ed and ready for you to plug and play, so just trying pluggin everything in and see what happens...
