aco Veteran Posted May 12, 2002 Veteran Share Posted May 12, 2002 Totally depends on the ISP. Does he normally use a login client to connect to his cable network? If not, it should just work after you plug the modem in, install the network card and install TCP/IP.
gravel5839
you dont need to install your nic in xp man... plug n play. and all cable services that are dynamic leave the tcp/ip settings as automatic
tkyoshi
Some Providers may also require you to put in a comuter name for example my old isp required me to put in the box cr824366-a before you could use it (after all the net card drivers and stuff were installed). Usually the software install disc will do everything for you
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted May 12, 2002 Veteran Share Posted May 12, 2002 there's this wonderful thing you pay for when you get services like this: support :D Check out their website (seeing as you're at least online :D ) and see if they have setup instructions there. I'd assume it's all DHCP'ed and ready for you to plug and play, so just trying pluggin everything in and see what happens...

loa92
When I reformat my computer it takes my cable modem (SerfBoard SB4100) a good 20-30 mins to 'reconnect' to my isp.
