BPN question... Technology only right?

Recommended Posts

I was under the impression, that back page news is for technology related topics only. like new motherboards, processors, cell phones, etc being released. new software and tools and such. information about AMD, Microsoft, Mac, etc.

but i see all these posts in BPN that have NOTHING to do with technology... about people dying and stuff. am i right? or did some people flame me for nothing awhie ago :s

BPN is primarly setup for tech news... but doesn't have to be.

We've had news on the earthquakes and tsunami's... so the one on the SUV is ok too.

Although I'm might move it to RWI.

Mostly aimed towards technology (since that's the center and general theme of Neowin anyway), but it can be any news in general, including world news, gaming news, music news, etc. (since Neowin caters to a bit of everything). As long as it truly is news, than it can be posted in there. :)

My personal opinion is that BPN should be for technology related news only. The Subforum that BPN is under is Neowin Related Discussion. My thoughts are that Neowin is a technology based community, so Neowin Related Discussions would be technology based only.

Stories that are not technology related, such as the SUV & Earthquake stories, should be located in Real World Issues (or a seperate forum for "Other News").

Just my thoughts...

I do think that all Tsunami posts could very well be moved to RWI. Particularly the ones about specific nations "Israel donates warning system" (or whatever).

Some non-tech and non-political news can stay in BPN (Blockbuster late fees, etc...)

The only other option is General Discussion and that gets swamped with people starting threads asking what time it is or what they should eat for lunch.

(oh no, I just given them inspiration to start two new threads...)

It's a loosely categorised sub-forum, accepting most types of news. If it's deemed in-appropriate, a mod will move it out. Members can clearly use their personal discretion when it comes to these posts.

We don't want to laydown "overly harsh" guidelines for that forum, as it might deter members from posting news there, be it relevant or not.

    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
