This would probably get lost in the Gamer's Hangout, so I've posted it here.

My question is this: what games really work with Cedega?

I'm making the switch, and I'd like some sort of idea as to what I can reasonably expect to get to work, what just became a coaster, and what hacks I need to get the games to run.

Here's what I have that I know will work: UT2004, NWN, HL/HL2/Steam. All those seem to have native installers, or decent Cedega support.

Things not sure about: Max Payne, Max Payne 2, Call of Duty, Homeworld/Homeworld 2, Prince of Persia, Halo, Rise of Nations, Warhammer DoW.

Things I'm sure are now coasters: Joint Operations/Joint Ops Escalation.

Anyone get any of those games to run with Cedega, and if so, what hacks did you need?

UT2004 and NWN are both available for Linux, anyway (for UT2004, the installer is included, for NWN, you can download at Bioware's website). HL is supposed to work perfectly with Wine/ Cedega, HL2 is working with Cedega (but somewhat sluggish). Max Payne 1+2 work very good with Cedega AFAIK, Homeworld is availabe for Linux, Homeworld2 is also supposed to work with Cedega, as is Halo. Don't know about the other titles...

I've been able to run just about anything I've come across, minus the occasional bugs. If you can run it via opengl, your chances of success tend to increase quite a bit, especially since you can often get by without cedega and just run wine. There are a few databases out there which show what works - heres the winehq and cedega database

Remember, I said it's "supposed to work", as in "I've heard someone uses Cedega to play it". I've never tried it myself... I just checked again, and according to the unofficial Transgaming FAQ, Halo does _not_ work. Oh well, my fault. Didn't mean to make any false hopes...

There is no reason to let game support in Linux keep you from using Linux as your main OS.

Dual boot, and keep Windows around for gaming. (Y) If games are your only reason for not using Linux, then you can really switch now. :yes:
