New iPod Shuffle, No colors?

Recommended Posts

The iPod mini is designed for the following purpose:

- plug it into your USB port

- pick a playlist

- load it to your iPod shuffle

- go do whatever it is you do away from the computer (jog, commute, bike, walk the dog, etc)

- flip the slider on the back to go from 'non-shuffle' mode to 'shuffle' mode

Absolutely no need for a screen, and Apple rightly didn't include one. It would have only drained away battery life.

We can look at it another way. The most common functionalities that require a screen:

- scrolling through library, selecting a record or playlist

- changing songs

- changing settings (equalizer, contrast)

The iPod shuffle deals with #1 before you even leave your computer. Once you load a playlist into the ipod, there's no need for the screen. Since you only have one playlist, you should have an idea of what songs are available to you (and if you're on shuffle mode, just hit 'next')

This is a simple player....no need for an equalizer here.

if it got screens it would be bigger and a screen that size would be very crappy

its just a mini usb thumbdrive with music playing abilities, if u want real players, then go for the full size iPod

ive always wanted a dock for my usb mp3 player i wonder if iPod Shuffle's Dock will work

Atleast an iPod is available under $100.

I know that people are dissing the new iPod because it doesn't have a screen, but who actually listens to an MP3 player and need a display? If I had the money for the iPod remote, then I'd get one, and leave the iPod in my bag, and only have the remote exposed.

But with the size and now affordability of the new iPod, a new way has to be devised to keep people from stealing it.

eh i dunno, i would have to try one. the screen thing bothers me a lil bit but i do like the way it is set up on the back so i think it kind of equals out. Very glad the pricing scheme is the way it is, and i do like the way it just plugs in. But there isnt a screen! and removable battery! Ill give it a c+ or a b- but then again i would have to use one. I think it might be popular or catch on but im not sure. We shall see. Ill give them an a for creativity though, lol.

I think the shuffle is great! most of the things you would need a screen for, are assumed to have ben done on your PC already. industrial design is an A+ (comeon , its apple). I have a 4th gen 20 gigger right now, but i might get the 512MB shuffle b/c of its size, light weight, ease of use and for working out and stuff... its def cheap too! awesome stuff!

This thing is a real disappointment - it shouldn't even be called an iPod. If you say to your friends "hey, I got an ipod!", they're going to expect you to pull out a really nice white ipod (or maybe a mini) - pull this thing out and they're going to ask what the hell it is.

Apple can do much better - the shuffle just seems to be the result of some very bored designers.

How about a display?  even a single line or two to read the currently playing song.

 That would be logic...

It's rediculous. Imagine 1gb worth of music... with no visual navigation! :woot:

I'm going to be out right trollish and say watch the sheep flock to buy them because it's an iPod.

Seriously, the iPod started out cool. This is not cool.

Buy an iRiver flash player, or for a mini HDD go for the Zen, iRiver H10 or even iPod mini!

There's my lexical turd excreted.

Nope, no screen.  I hope it will flop but people will buy it because its apple.

Wahey, haters!

Theres nohing wrong with this device. A slick looking smaler than gumpacket (not uk gum mind) mp3 player that doesn't skip. Tiny, you should know your best songs.

Looks immense.

For some reason right when I read that I started thinking of that Aqua Teen Hunger Force "ad" where those two guys are sitting there in front of the laptop while that girl stands in the corner dancing..

I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking with my 2nd Gen iPod. This doesn't really impress me.

How many came on here to comment that they'll stick with their EXISTING iPods? You have this much money, and you're bitching over a newly released product most haven't even gotten their hands on yet? I want one because it looks cool and around the price range of most that can't get regular iPods. I want one because a random player sounds cool. I want one for the same reason I used to want Creative's MuVo player. Small, was cheaper than an iPod and cool.

Honestly, I've seen many iPods and the biggest thing that turned me off was the price, and you guys are ****ed off because it has no screen. I don't know, the target for this could be a value iPod or a great way to save batteries while being constantly surprised with your iPod. Interesting idea tho.

Remember 1GB does not hold many (hundreds) of songs, so its not something to whine about. Moreover since it would function as a USB Key drive, many people wont use the full capacity just for songs. So yeah the navigation thing isnt such a big problem thats made out to be.

I'm going to be out right trollish

Wow thanks for having mercy on us.

iPod was never cool in your eyes and it will never be. I'd suggest you stop trolling all the iPod threads.

well i have heard that they will be releasing a new remote with a screen on it (or is one already off, i dont use remotes) but who knows, perhaps they will include that with the shuffle. I have read a bit more bout it, and i have to say, i really like this, the only thing is, no ****ing screen! i mean its not a bad little player, kind of reminds me of the muvo which was popular if memory serves me right (sometimes it doesnt so dont get smart with me if im wrong, lol). I wouldnt get one, i have way too much music and i love my U2 iPod, but for someone who has much less volume of music and needs a nice little player this is perfect. Also it doesnt skip (even though i ahvent encountered my ipod skipping at all)! this thing is perfect for gym people and im pleased with it, not thrilled, but pleased. Remember, this is aimed for a person with not too much music. This is perfect i think, just no screen! Ill give it a B but i need to use it first to get a good feel for it. but i wont get one, ill stick with 4g ipod.

Anyone have the slightest clue as to how the controls work, im a bit confused, its not a click wheel is it?

I believe that they are new "Click Sliders" which is very similar to Clickwheel from iPod mini and 4G iPod.
