Rootkits/exploits

Recommended Posts

I am writing an advanced article for a New Zealand magazine and ecrime department of NZ goverment.

All information I am asking for, is going to be used for educational uses only. And Not illegal purposes.

How are exploits used to gain access to the server/box? ( Detailed explanation paleeze )

Thanks

Your writing an advanced article for a ecrime dept for the government?

Well just the fact that you have came here asking those questions, suggest that they may have chosen the wrong guy. Educational uses only. oh ok

I'm not sure what exactly you are asking. Are you wanting an example of what today's hackers do for hacking and what a rootkit is? Also I do have some interesting security logs from my server: "Titan". Some hackers have been trying to bruteforce into it since August via SSH, FTP, etc. every second of every minute of everyday. Not that I have invited it, but they've still not gotten through yet. You can have one of my security logs if you'd like.

http://staff.washington.edu/dittrich/misc/faqs/rootkits.faq

maybe that could help, also google on some info, theres tons

oh and also why don't you post somewhere like

http://www.linuxcompatible.org/forums.html

or

http://www.linuxforums.org/

or of course the many other forums out there

Well, the original post sounds a bit questionable...

But, for general security information, two sites come to mind:

http://www.insecure.org

and

http://www.phrack.org (which seems to be having mysql problems at the moment)

with insecure.org being the more 'respectable' of the two.

    • Because of the EU (a good thing) newer android devices been getting 5 years worth of security patches. Except some Motorola which found the loop hole, and offer ZERO updates. In addition, Google for years have been making where it can patch some stuff by updating the core Google Play Store itself.  As echoed earlier,  you take the security risk in to your own hand beyond supported.
