Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility Genuine Windows download

The Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility helps you determine if an MPEG-2 video decoder (also called a DVD decoder) is installed on your Windows XP computer and whether or not the decoder is compatible with Windows Media Player 10 and Windows XP Media Center Edition.

An MPEG-2 decoder is software that allows you to play DVDs and files that contain video content that was encoded in the MPEG-2 format (such as DVR-MS files, MPG files, and some AVI files).

If you encounter a problem while using Windows Media Player 10 to synchronize (copy) recorded TV shows to a Portable Media Center or other device, use this utility to verify that you have a compatible MPEG-2 decoder installed on your computer.

Note: This utility only indicates whether an MPEG-2 decoder is compatible with the synchronization feature of Windows Media Player 10 or whether an MPEG-2 decoder is compatible with the recorded TV playback feature of Windows XP Media Center Edition.

This utility:

? Lists all the MPEG-2 video decoders that appear in your Windows registry (a database that contains information about the hardware and software installed in your computer).

? Indicates whether each decoder listed in the registry is marked as compatible with Windows XP Media Center Edition and whether any decoder listed in the registry is marked as the preferred video decoder.

? Indicates whether each decoder listed in the registry is marked as compatible with the synchronization feature of Windows Media Player 10.

? Lets you designate which installed decoder that you want Windows Media Player 10 to use when synchronizing DVR-MS files to a portable device. This is known as the preferred video decoder.

? Lets you undo any changes the utility makes to your Windows registry.

It is not an updated version (same MD5, file size and file version as the one I downloaded in November).

This is not the only download page where a date change has occurred, but the download is the same. A few days ago, many of the (old) downloads suddenly sported a 20 Jan date. (MS Antispyware beta was one)

ASP.NET Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1

File Name: NDP1.1-KB886904-X86.exe

Again, I don't think this is a new update, just the date change on the download page. Why is MS changing so many dates for old downloads???

FIX: You cannot enter full-screen mode on a second instance of the Windows Media Player ActiveX control

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You embed the Microsoft Windows Media Player ActiveX control in two separate Web pages. You exit from full-screen mode on the first instance of the control. In this scenario, you cannot enter full-screen mode on the second instance of the control.

Additionally, the full-screen controls and mouse pointer may not correctly hide when you use full-screen mode in Windows Media Player ActiveX control version 10.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Windows Media Player ActiveX control does not correctly reset when you exit full-screen mode and you use multiple instances of the control.

There is a fix for WMP9 on Windows 2000 and WMP10 on Windows XP.

HI Guys,

I would recommend that you do NOT include MSKB 912945 in the next release of Autopatcher.

There are registration issues and integration issues with this hotfix which are being reported on a number of web sites, including RyanVM's, DJLizard's (Dial-a-fix) and MSFN.

According to DjLizard @ http://djlizard.net/2006/03/14/139, there are issues with Registration as follows:

"There is a bug in its DllRegisterServer or DllInstallServer which causes it to write many invalid entries into the registry.

Among other errors, it changes the path of mshtml.dll in about 30+ CLSID entries to "%_SYS_MOD_PATH%".

If you search your registry for %_SYS_MOD_PATH% and find several entries in HTML-related objects, you are affected.

You will also not be able to use System Restore (blank window), Internet Explorer (tries to download the root of a website instead of opening it), Help and Support (hit F1 after clicking on your desktop once - it tries to Open/Save "context.htm"), possibly Event Viewer, and probably many more things that use embedded HTML objects. It also seems to affect reinstalling of Service Pack 2".

The previous version of MSHTML.DLL (which is NOT affected) is 6.0.2900.2802.

6.0.2900.2838 is the version of mshtml.dll that IS affected.

If registering an important file like this, which is sometimes needed to fix IE / Shell issues can cause this problem then I would probably stay clear of this hotfix for now.

MS apparently are aware of these issues but don't seem to have released any newer versions of the hotfix at this time.

RyanVM has a thread on his board here: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1661 detailing further issues.

Kind Regards

Simon

    • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
