Well, a solution must be found, because when WIE7 gets out of beta and gets included in AP, the same thing will happen. But don't worry, there is time. After all, there are another themes that are waiting to be included:

4 legs

Brazil Beaches

Historical Monuments

Nature 2

(Since they are in x64 version, I guess that they are MS official.)

It seems there is a new version of KB905472 - even though I installed the AutoPatcher one this morning (after formatting and clean XP reinstallation), along with all other updates etc., when I went on MU a little later, I had to install it again.

Hi,

It is not at all clear that IE7 will need validation to download and install on XP. MS may release it for general download as it may contain "security" updates.

However I doubt that MS would release anything to automate the installation of similar protected downloads.

Photo Story 3 has the same issues in that you need to have an activated and validated Windows XP installation before you can install it.

I am sure that the installers might be modifed to work-around this issue (it can be for Windows Defender).

However it might just be easier to ensure that your system is activated and validated before you use APXP.

KB905472 has been updated to build 1.5.540.0 as of a few days ago.

I am looking for cheap high bandwidth Web space so I can host APXP updates, if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Kind Regards

Simon

About WIE7 - did you try it? Every version I have been using has been requesting an online validation. Beta 2 preview 1, beta 2 preview 2, beta 2, beta 3... Even though this makes WIE7 less popular, I doubt that M$ will remove the validation in future.

About WD - WD doesn't have the online validation (it has an offline one). Its validation really can be bypassed? Didn't know.

Having validated WinXP works only for offline validations. You don't even need no validating, you just need legal WinXP.

Will you update your KB905472 for AP July? :woot:

KB905472 is updated AGAIN!

I guess M$ is constantly updating the stolen S/N database...

It seems that the July Update is going to be pretty big... Flash Player * 2, Shockvawe Player, Active Sync, KB911280 v2, KB914440, WMP hotfix * 7, new KB905472, TweakUI fix...

OMG! Quo vadis, WMP?

M$ is releasing the hotfixes tommorow. See here. It seems that KB892130 is going to be updated again -

Microsoft will release one NON-SECURITY High-Priority Updates on Microsoft Update (MU) and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

KB892130 hasn't been updated, but there are other things:

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB917283)

A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system running the Microsoft .NET Framework and gain access to restricted data. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

Security Update for Windows XP (KB914388)

A remote code execution security issue has been identified in the DHCP Client service that could allow an attacker to remotely compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

Security Update for Windows XP (KB917159)

A remote code execution security issue has been identified in the Server service that could allow an attacker to remotely compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

Security Update for Windows XP (KB917537)

A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to remotely compromise your Windows-based system using Windows Internet Information Services and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

Is Windows Live Messenger going to be included? M$ says it's a new version of M$N Messenger.

And a slight correction. When I searched web for KB905472, I wondered why the only result was this forum. And then I realized that it's not KB905472 but KB905474.

It looks like they just updated atapi.sys to a new version. Is it too late to add this bugger to this months update?

KB920918 - An IDE device runs in PIO mode instead of in DMA mode after you update the firmware for the device in Windows XP

After you update the firmware for an IDE device on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP, the device runs in Program Input/Output (PIO) mode instead of in Direct Memory Access (DMA) mode. Therefore, the performance of the device may be significantly reduced.
