Yep, I am on the case and I have been updating my modules for KB892130 and KB905472.

Glad to hear that. Is anything going on with Windows Update?

P.S Is it just me or does anyone else have issues with the Neowin Forum not responding or loading pages when using Firefox 1.5.0.3 ? It takes forever sometimes to load a pages or react when pressing using "Show Preview" in the Message Editor. In addition I cannot attach a .ZIP file so I will have to sort this out later.

Use IE7... :D :D :D

Update for Windows XP (KB917730)

Install this update to fix a situation where you cannot create a network connection when you are starting a Windows XP SP2-based computer. During boot time, the hard-coded firewall boot policy blocks traffic on the default UDP port until the firewall service is running.

New updates for XP SP2:

918766 - A saved .eml file does not open in Compose mode in Outlook Express

919071 - FIX: Flickering may occur after seeking when you play back interlaced content through the Video Mixer Renderer 9 (VMR9) with DXVA enabled in Windows XP

Sun Java is now 1.5.0.7! :)

New update from MS!

816093: Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)

Download size: 5.1 MB , 19 minutes

This update helps resolve a vulnerability in the Microsoft virtual machine. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.

Since MSVM is a discontinued product (at least I was told so), I doubt anyone will use it, but what does this mean? Is it "continued" again, or just a security fix to help people that use it, or what? I have no idea...

Blaze, do you happen to know anything about this? Please... :(

Hi,

Not that it needs to be included but there are some Java applications which only work with the MSJVM.

Some of the stuff on AOL and Yahoo! only seems to work with it and not the Sun JVM.

So there are occations where BOTH JVM's are needed on an XP installation.

I do have all of the MSJVM installables here and I will make modules for them at some stage.

Kind Regards

Simon

816093: Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)

Hardly new. It's the update to v 5.0.8310, dated 2003. 816093 is for Windows 2000

For XP, it can be dowmloded from, e.g.

http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/java.php

Well... AAMOF, I use WinXP Pro SP2 and I found it on MU before few days. I don't know if it's new, but it IS for WinXP...

Anyway, until I realized today I didn't, I thought I removed MSJVM. If I had removed it, this wouldn't have come up. I'll remove it and forget about this update. :)

Update for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (897338)

This update contains new language locales for Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).

If this is a LIP (Language Interface Pack) update, it's not for AutoPatcher, because then you need all LIPs 1.0 to update them.

No. The one I posted is just 1 file, but it is the original scripten.exe and 917734 combined into the one file.

You mean the one in Jun Upd = 2 files, and this one = only 1 file?

    • Well I've done a grand total of nothing, and it now clocks between 2010mhz and 1995mhz (stock is 1710mhz) and hovers around 80c, warmer than it used to, but tolerable clocks seem to have returned. Thanks for all the advice on this thread. Will review the evidence and make a choice.

    • I really wonder if this has to do with the built in VPN or "private DNS" of browsers that trip up legal requirements like cookie consent and Cloudflare (to avoid all the botnet attacks we get). And BTW some botnets still manage to get past Cloudflare, we are constantly having to tweak it to block malicious traffic that ultimately cause a DDoS.
