i did and i thot it would take about a couple of hours to scandisk so i left the room for a few hours and when i came back all it said was something scandisk complete... and froze so i restarted the computer by manually turning it off and turning it back on.

hrm, did you the idechannels yet? maybe the hd switched over/is stuck in PIO mode instead of ultra-dma. also check your autostart (msconfig) and make sure you don't have too much apps being loaded at startup.

nothing but msmsngr is running which has always been running.

whats idechannels?

goto hardware/devicemanager -> ide/atapi-controller and check those, they shouldall be set to ultra-dma mode.

HDD diagnostics depend on your manufacturer.

If you have a IBM harddrive download their harddrive utility which you boot from disk, if you have Seagate then use Seagate utility....

Try updating all your drivers, such as graphics, motherboard and so on.
