is your cpu ussage 43percent at IDLE???

That's just desktop #4. It has other stuff running (compiling GIMP on desktop #3).

I also have the (bad) habit of running more than one X session at the same time,

KDE + GNOME + XFCE (and sometimes ratpoison, but this one doesn't really count).

Not doing idle ;)

I love those Edge icons!

Maybe it sounds funny, but my system seems to be faster with composite loaded wacko.gif. I mean that opening new windows etc. is faster. I guess it has something to do with render accel.

P.S. Do you use any custom fonts?

I install all the font from my Windows partition, but I didn't modified the default setting of KDE, it's just for web surfing, to make sure every site render properly.

Regarding the xcompmgr, I wipe out my old installation since I mess around so much with the previous x.org installation by trying, testing, learning, etc... and I reinstall Mandrake 10.2b2 (I kept my $HOME dir intact tho ;) ), so far xcompmgr is running pretty smooth, I can scroll normaly, the rendering of normal windows doesn't seems slower, everthing seems to be ok after 30min of running. Now I just need to tweak the way the shadow is draw :)
