Norton antivirus, definition update

Hey just a quicky, i have legally bought the cd of norton, so have got that ready at hand.

i downloaded the automatic updater from the website, and noticed the definition files is just a zip,

is it possible to make an iso and replace the old definition files (ive found them on the disc) with the new downloaded definition files and make a new CD for when i reformat my pc?

Those definitions would soon get out of date though wouldn't they?! I suppose you have seen the "Update Locator" thingy on the CD when you autorun it?

this is possible, I have done it in the past. Download the latest virusdefs from the symantec site they should come in an exe not a zip. Then run the exe with /X parameter to extract them. Then just replace the virusdefs from the CD with the new files. I don't remember exact folder names and stuff as I don't use norton anymore. Maybe someone else can elaborate.

thanx, yep all i needed to know if it was possible. i know the folders, and even though it will soon go out of date, it will still be about a quater of year + more recent then the ones supplied on disc
