Although I listen to Green Day, I wouldn't class either of them as punk in a strictly musical sense. Listen to other bands i.e. Clash, Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers etc. to hear what some people class as punk.

definition of punk

Wait a second..

You're trying to compare Good Charlotte with the band that gave us Good Riddance?

Be ashamed.

Good Riddance is one of the most moving songs I've ever heard.

I'd like to think it's a song about life, love, friendship - and losing those things, while still remembering all the good things you've been through.

The amount of memories the song brings to mind are too many and too various to begin to describe.

That said, one song doesn't make a band great - which is why a bunch of their other "great songs" include Basketcase and When I Come Around.

Either way, I wouldn't put Green Day on my list of favorite artists - and certainly not that over-produced piece of **** called Good Charlotte (not that American Idiot isn't over-produced...)

metallithrax: i think they classify green day as modern punk, but i might be wrong

I'm not saying they are not punk, but some people remember punk from the late 1970's (me included) and don't really class the modern punk as being real punk. Hell, in the UK Busted are classed as being punk by some people.

Besides.  We all know Barry Manilow rocks all your @$$3$!!  :p  :p  :p

My g/f would agree with you on that. She's seeing him in November in Las Vegas. I think he's her 2nd fave after Elvis(who shes seeing in April/May). Not the real Elvis You understand :D , but the show they tour with at the moment, with him on screen and the band playing live.

You may have been joking, but i'm not. Do you know this crap I have to put up with, especially when her twin comes down for a beer or three. My ears are f***ed from using headphones.

The music savvy know that Good Charlotte is nothing more then a mediocre Green Day.

Green Day's latest ablum, and they're ablums past are just fantastic. Musicans that are equally talented song writers as they are instrumentalists.

I hate Punk Rock and I even say Green Day is a fantastic group. There you go.

Green Day has to be one of the best live performances. They always put on a good show. Good Charlotte is one of the worst bands and the lead singer has the most annoying voice. This is not even worth comparing. I've been a Green Day fan for a long time, but I'm not sure I like the direction they're taking. I liked Insomniac, which was darker, although not many people enjoyed it. Nimrod was cool too. Warning I'm mixed on...American Idiot is growing on me.
