Sony = $60+ Billion in Debt

HHAHAHAHAHA, what a nice joke.

I don't see why ? Sony have always made good products that are worth paying more for.

I have a Sony Wega TV, walkman, DAB walkman, DVD 5.1 system, have had Sony component system (now Technics) and I have been impressed with all of them.

for all those people who said sony makes bad products, you're amazingly wrong.

they make very good products, they're specialized in display, all their high end displays are amazing and top notch, but if you're looking for audio, sony is not the way to go for audio. for little handy devices, sony is also very good.

those of you who say they jack up the price... you guys are poor and have no money, shut up !

The argument of good product bad product is purely subjective. The argument that they charge way too much is more substantial. Look at what they want to charge for the PSP. Just because they make a good product( if you believe that) does not mean you have to pay "premium", aka too much. Ive had countless walkman like products all the back to when it was simply a cassette player, (showing my age) They have all performed as good or better for a much better price. As do other products I have bought. The plain and simple fact is with sony youre paying for the name. Ive heard many people say that in the past. The only thing Sony I own now is the playstation......and I dont use that all that much.

edit: To say that people who think Sony is over priced are simply poor is such an ignorant statement. I guess the old saying is true....a fool and his money are soon parted.

whys there so much hatred towards sony? they are an amazing company- true they do charge alot but it has to be said their products are mcuh much better than the way your describing them. their cd players quite simply knockout and there would be no iPod, if there was no walkman. theres something seeing a shiny new silver product, that you know is more likely to work than your cheap crap with the bold word "sony" accross the front. i wish good luck to them as one of the brands i like most.

they were successful- but for the last several years they have droppped... i havent even bought anything sony for the last 6-8years- cuz they are overpriced goods.. which panasonic, hitachi etc can deliver the same for less..

and the ATRAC format was a total waist of time..!!

If I could afford it, I would buy everything Sony.

they DO make better stuff. You just have to know what to buy.

I have a Sony tv downstairs and a Toshiba in my room. The sony is on composite, while my toshiba is on component, yet the sony is razor sharp and my toshiba is fuzzy.

Rot and die Sony. Its mainly all the sheep who think Sony is quality because they're the most expensive out there. I could name a half dozen other brands of TV and other appliances that are cheaper, more durable, and have more features then the sorry excuses Sony puts on the shelf.

I buy from them because it sais sony, and has a pretty logo!

For everyone who says that Sony makes top quality products, but for a premium. Look at the case of my minidisc player, the Sony MZ-N1. Top of the line when I bought it for 600$ Canadian. After a year and a half, it was no longer able to read or write to the disc. "But you didn't handle it properly" you might say. I wish that were true. While I did drop it one two many times which broke the eject spring. I am not the only person who has had their optical block fail on them. In fact, when I posted about my problem on a minidisc forum, the first reply started out with "Join the club". It turns out that Sony put a low end optical block inside the MZ-N1, that was not meant for high speed recording, but they made it record at 32X anyways, and after a year and a bit, nearly ever unit of that model no longer works. Worst thing is that Sony want 190$ Canadian plus tax to fix it. Unlike microsoft where when there is even a small problem (the electrical cord) they have a recall and they fix it. With Sony, even when there is a major problem, they just get the consumer to pay over 200$ to repair the unit. Needless to say, I will be getting an mp3 player from a different company in the future.

only sony thing i have bought in the last 10 years was a couple cassett walkmans as they seem to be the only ones out there making any sort of new advances for the old cassett. (i have a couple thousand old skool rave tapes i like to listen to) I have an old 28" trinitron from when they were released and it's still ticking over quite well my only gripe and the reason i haven't bought anything else sony makes is the price it just ain't worth what they charge

would love one of those big arse wega tellys but i am not payin a grand for one and thats for sure

I have been using Sony products for about 15 years now and in my experience I have not had too many issues which would stop me using or purchasing another Sony product. The quality is always good and yes the prices are higher on the high street, but online they are much much cheaper.

They have good diverse products and I would always look up a sony product when looking to buy any new electrical item, even if I didn't end up buying it.

No matter what company you buy from, you will always find someone who has had a bad experience or had something break. Annatar clearly has issues that he should discuss with a professional, and as iconboy highlighted his posts from another thread were in poor taste. It's only a brand, it's not worth getting angry to the point of hatred. There are far more important things in life to worry about.

I hope sony will never declare bankrupt for god's sake. This is THE only antitrust company that I respect. (or something like that)

They don't ALWAYS make the best thing, this is normal, but most of their products pwn the others.

Cheers, Sony... I'm with you... even if I can't do a thing but buying your stuff.

as for price jacking: it is my understanding that there is a 100% markup at the sony store.

now granted, people pay it because of this image that sony is good stuff, but when you consider they don't even make the plasma or lcd screens in their tvs, are their panels worth it? I say no. There are far better products than what sony offers. Sony has always been, for most of their products, low end consumer grade disposable crap to me.

Walkman = Not popular anymore

Wega TVs =  Overpriced and not easily obtained by Avg Joe

Trinitron Monitors = You called that one yourself.

I meant that the PS was the only thing that was mainstream successful at this time.

Sorry, misinterpreted. At this time, yeah.

    • They already threw the Ultra 1st gen under the bus?
    • Right, Google... because that's who this is going to. Google, the company who's entire business model is geared around ad revenue and your personal data.
    • That is the natural course for regulations. First to protect the consumer. Then to protect the business/industry from upstart competition. There are countless examples across history.
    • I have never been a huge fan of libre, it feels really good but exactly when you need an advance feature for data wrangling it falls short every time or has bugs. I am all for euro office if they can deliver a good and usable alternative to MS office with backing of govt function.
    • Go on, I'll bite. How does windows (nice comment on an 'article' which doesn't actually involve it ) lock users out of their data then? Been using it since 3.1 back in 92 and not once have I been locked out of my data? Perhaps you mean Bitlocker? In which case the average user (who doesn't mess about) will have been forced to use a MSA, and in which case the recovery key would have been saved to said account..... If the user did happen to bodge around and not use an MSA then Bitlocker wouldn't have become live (as it cannot without a safe place to store the key) I want to point out Bitlocker and MSA are not connected and you can of course force it on without a safe place to store the key, but you do that with your eyes open. So your standard consumer who knows no better sets up an MSA, gets bitlocker and a recovery key stored off box, with a route to reset their password. All of this notwithstanding the fact, if your data is important, you back it up, no ifs, no buts, no-ones responsibility other than your own. Important data lives in at least two locations, one of which is offline and recovery is tested, otherwise that data wasn't really that important. Disks, fail, laptops get lost, phones end up down the toilet, tablets get stolen, if your only copy of data is on a single device you're doing it wrong.
