tiger and powerbook

will MacOS X Tiger run just as fast (if not faster) than 10.3.8 on a PowerBook G4?

I just bought this computer and hope that i will be able to run Tiger with all features enabled (including the ripple effect) as fast as Panther runs.

In order to take advantage of the Core Image effects, you need to make sure you have a supported video card. All the latest powerbooks should be able to handle it. Here are the supported cards last time I looked...

ATI Radeon 9800 XT

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

ATI Radeon 9700 Pro

ATI Radeon 9600 XT

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro

ATI Mobility Radeon 9700

ATI Mobility Radeon 9600

NVIDIA GeForceFX Go 5200

NVIDIA GeForceFX 5200 Ultra

core image?

g5's will take full advantage....g4 powerbooks will just be smoother than ibooks, but nothing will take control as much as a g5 (powermac/imac).

Actually, other than a few of the 64-bit processing improvements in Tiger, the modern-generation PowerBooks will take advantage of all the features of Tiger. And yes, the iBooks will not be able to fully run Core Image.

Also, to respond to your question about speed, yes, Tiger runs faster on a PowerBook than Panther.

excellent, i cant wait for Tiger. I dont understand why there is so much hype over Longhorn.. if only people would try out MacOS X they dont know what theyre missing out on.

Thanks for your prompt responeses

Because Microsoft has something like 95% of the desktop OS market. :p

And because it's been 5 years since Windows had a major update. ;) OS X has been getting major updates almost yearly. Tiger's actually taken it's time, and now I'm getting really anxious. :p

yeah but i cant understand why microsoft has 95% of the share... maybe becasue microsoft's approach is to force Windows down everyones throats and the money train doesnt stop at the MS camp. i cant wait for the day microsoft folds (i think that wont happen for a long long time)

the reason they have 95% market share is because they do OEM. you can get a windows computer at any high street for instance in the UK apple only just opened there first apple store before you have to go to apple retailers or buy online from apple.com

They need to make people aware of there product and they need to make it easily accessible to everyone.
