What's the use for a 10Gbit connection when you can't even write data that fast.

10Gbits is about 1Gbyte a second, don't know any disks which write that fast, maybe UCL uses SCSI hard disks.

The best connection which is worth getting is a 1.5Gbit, this speed will allow the data to be written as it is downloaded per second.

UCL is one of the London backbones, not only that but it has thousands of University PCs attached to it. Its hardly gonna be one computer connected to a 10Gig connection is it  Man imagine that...

10Gbits = 1.25 Gbytes/sec, i know im being picky, but that extra 0.25Gig a sec is a huge amount!

Currently on 56k (rather 37.2k) dialup

However moving to 1meg/256k from Pipex very very shortly :D :D

I was in your scenario for ages and ages, although I never got quite as fast as 37.2k, then I jumped to 1mbit once I got a job. It's phenomenal. When BT come to de-DACS your line, which I presume is the problem, and you start getting near 50kb/s speeds on your dialup you'll be over the moon, never mind having 1meg

Enjoy!

56k = 56kbits/sec, ie 7KB/sec, anything faster than that is obtained through compression or is an error in calculation (IEs speed download measure is incredibly inaccurate)

Hence 37.2k, im guessing aroud 4.8KB/sec average speed?

6600MB Down/768Kbps Up Comcast cable here, I used to have DSL with BellSouth and loved it, but when I moved they did not offer the highest speeds on this area so I had to drop them and go with Cable, So far so good, but defenately I would go back to DSL if they offered the speed I have with Cable.

If you read my post you will see I clearly state kb(lower case), suggesting kilobits per second. Kthxbai

HOLY CRAP! Is that really true? 49MB/sec! If so, you finally beat me...

It's a real screen shot.

But I left the download running a while before selecting where to save it. When you finally select to save, the speeds quoted are vastly over the top as it is downloading while you are waiting.

I'm actually on 1MB Blueyonder (UK).

The fact is that, the UCL will have LOADS of PC's connected to it so it will need a nice big net connection if speed is to be kept nice and nippy.

Japp, Sweden.

Students living in city of Lund have access to 100Gbit connection... that's what I call fast!

Hopefully BBB will soon be upgrading to Gbit...

    • From this very article, thought I got no source on that, I haven't been following this personally (aside knowing they did launch an ultrathin) An earlier rumor had claimed that Samsung will be increasing the production of its foldable units and will phase out the upcoming S26 Plus in favor of the S26 Edge. However, the latest news out of South Korea might make Samsung rethink its strategy.

    • OneDrive search is currently broken for many users by Taras Buria If you are trying to find a certain file in your OneDrive storage, but the service just won't give you the stuff you need, you are likely experiencing an issue that Microsoft has just confirmed. The company updated the official OneDrive documentation with a list of known bugs to clarify that the service currently exhibits problems with the search functionality. According to Microsoft, the bug affects four platforms: Windows, iOS, Android, and Web (macOS users are spared). The company says that affected users see black search results, and the storage does not return files that certainly exist (do not blame Microsoft if OneDrive cannot find the file you accidentally deleted or renamed). Fortunately, files are intact—it is just the search that cannot find them and present them to you. Another good thing is that the issue does not appear to affect 100% of users. Microsoft says only "a subset of users" experience the bug. Neowin checked a bunch of systems with personal and work OneDrive accounts, and all of them found the requested files without any issues. Unfortunately, if you are affected, there is nothing you can do at this point. Microsoft made it clear that there are no workarounds. Therefore, you will have to manually scavenge your OneDrive folders (they can now be colored!) to search for the needed file. Microsoft added that it understands how disruptive this bug could be, and it is "working with urgency" to resolve the bug as quickly as possible. You can check out the list of known OneDrive bugs and their possible workarounds in the official support document. In other news about OneDrive frustration, Microsoft recently locked out a user who was attempting to move a bunch of important data from old hard drives to OneDrive. Eighteen attempts to resolve the issue led to nothing but automated replies from Microsoft. You can read more about that wild story here.
