hmmm, i do have that checked, but nothing happens when i get msg.

Try making sure that 'Create tabs in the background' is also checked, and that 'Automatically pop up the window/tab when a message is received' is not checked.

another question i'd like to ask is, does upgrading miranda to a new version mean i will always lost my profile and history etc? or is there a file that can be kept and imported to newer versions to keep these things?

All of Miranda's settings and contacts and history are kept in the database file, which is the .dat file in your Miranda directory. Unless it becomes corrupted (by a buggy plug-in) or a new component breaks compatibility with the old database format (which is rare), your profile and history will always be saved whenever you update anything. As long as that database file is there, you can replace any other file in the Miranda directory.

Those options are greyed out until you disable the layer engine.

Ah, how gay.

I'm one of those weird people that like to have their contact list show up in the task bar (so I can bring it to the front just by clicking the task bar deal instead of hiding it then showing it via the system tray icon), but I would need to disable the layer engine to get it to do so, except I like being able to have my window skinned (the whole point of using miranda).

Oh well.

Is there a way in Miranda to show the aliases we've set up for our contacts? When I use Gaim, or Adium (for the mac) it shows the aliases, not the actual screen names of the people on my Aim contact list. If Miranda could do this, it would be perfect.

If you mean where to change it, you can go to 'View/Change My Details' (either in the root of the Main Menu or in your Extender UserInfo menu if you have that installed).

If you mean how to get it to show up in your clist, you need the My Details plug-in.

hmm nice plugin but kinda ugly with a skin

what I was talking is to show our own avatar in the tabsrrm msg window

Oh.

Assuming you have the Avatar Service plug-in and png2dib, you go into Options > Message Sessions > Message Window, and on the first tab there's a frame that says 'Avatar options'. Set 'Show my own avatars' to 'Show them if present'. And then i think you have to have the info panel enabled (Container > Container Options in message windows).

Something like that, i dunno, i use Scriver now.

Iok I found out how to enable panel, so now contact avatar is in the top right of the window. But I still can't see my own avatar at the bottom right of the window Edited by Pink Floyd

Umm. Right-click a contact and go to 'Rename'?

I swear I think some of my posts are being deleted.....I could have sworn I replied to this earlier.

Anyway, I know that's there, but when I sign on with Gaim or Trillian, they both show the aliases I have set up for all my aim contacts. I would assume this means they are stored on the server. But, Miranda doesn't show the aliases by default....I thought there was a way to show them. If you have ever used AdiumX for OS X, you would know there's an option to turn this on.

Oh. I didn't know AIM could do that.

Anyway, i don't think Miranda supports that feature yet, since it doesn't show up in the list of supported features on this page. The AIM OSCAR plug-in is still pretty new and there are probably more important things that snaphat has to fix.

I searched the Miranda forum for this subject, but i couldn't find anything. This is the official AIM OSCAR thread, though, if you want to ask about it and/or request it: http://forums.miranda-im.org/showthread.php?t=5149

    • Apple are scared of their customers! They have built a brand over the years of "it just works out of the box", but that slows innovation. Samsung's master stroke was the Galaxy Ultra: "Let's cram everything into one handset, make it so stupid only real nerds will love it, some of the features will work, some won't, but the audience will have such a high tolerance they won't care". Apple has no such device and so they are constantly worrying these days about the fallout of creating a new experience that customers might not like. I know it is often cited the reason they don't build a touchscreen Mac Book is they don't want to cannibalise the the iPad market, but I think it's equally cold feet after the criticism Microsoft receive trying to make a touch compatible desktop OS

    • So, an article that has nothing to do with Windows 11, still gets Windows 11 in the title and a build number as the picture? Dell have a buggy build of Support Assist HP have UEFI settings that need unlocking for the secureboot cert upgrade to take place.
    • What I can't seem to understand is that Google are paying SpaceX? Surely it would be the other way round, with SpaceX needing Google's datacenters etc.? Oh well, this level of money and power is way outside of my comprehension at the best of times.
