Mac OS X Panther 10.3.9 7W94

Recommended Posts

Will Apple keep updating Panther after Tiger is released? I thought they still release updates for Jaguar now. No?

They won't be releasing 10.3.X upgrades after 10.4. They might however release say, security upgrades to the OS or Safari for older versions of OS X.

Another build of Mac OS X 10.3.9 was seeded to developers recently (within the last hour), this time it's 7W90.

New in this seed:

-Fixed issue where MirrorAgent may crash during re-enabling of iDisk

Syncing

- Fixed problem where Safari did not handle MacBinary downloads correctly

in certain instances

- Fixed issue where rendered scrolling text may have artifacts when in

medium and low quality

Very close now

Radish?

HFS+ isn't entirely POSIX compliant either, as you cannot have filenames which differ only by case, i.e Install and INSTALL would be the same file on HFS+, but with ext2 for example they would be completely different files (this isn't the same as remembering case, HFS+ will remember the case of a filename, it just can't have two files which differ only by case)).

The default HFS+ file system is case-insensitive/case-preserving however you have been able to create a case-sensitive/case-preserving since at least OS X 10.2 Server using Disk Utility or the command line 'diskutil' program. The (apparent) lack of case-sensitivity isn't because of some sort of flaw in HFS+ so much as it is that Apple isn't making the functionality readily apprent.

By default this is not enabled in the 'client' version of OS X?probably to protect the unwashed Mac OS 9 using masses from a UNIX hardship?but you can enable it by copying

/system/library/coreservices/SystemVersion.plist

to

/system/library/coreservices/ServerVersion.plist

Showing two different files with the "same" name:

* If you're willing to poke about in your system folder and something goes wrong I don't want to know about. I'm amazed OS X doesn't crap itself more often than it does, you certainly shouldn't be provoking the matter by playing in places Apple doesn't want you to.

Mac OS X 10.3 Panther

The Mac maker on Wednesday offered its developers yet another build of the near final Mac OS X 10.3.9, according to various Web and developer reports. One of the latest builds is reportedly labeled Mac OS X 10.3.9 build 7W94.

While sources have described the release of Mac OS X 10.3.9 as 'imminent' since the last week of March, Apple reportedly located a few small bugs in the latter seeds of the 7W8x milestone, prompting the release build 7W90 last Friday.

A similar, and likely final, update to Mac OS X 10.3 Server is also reportedly in the works.
