I thought of various suggestions to make Neowin even better:

1- The first idea is to make an innovative forum named by ?Trash? to place all the closed topics in it.

3- The third idea is to add a new button to the contact details for Gmail identities.

4- The fourth idea is to add a gender identifier (Male or Female).

5- The fifth idea is to develop the games news section by making game reviews & ratings.

6- The sixth idea is to let the members change their username after achieving 1000 posts.

7- The seventh idea is to make software awards (like the 2004 Game Awards).

I wish that these ideas are taken into deliberation only if they?re possible. I would appreciate any member who would like to add to these ideas.

Best Regards,

Hani

2- how will the mods know which post is breaking the rules?

3- ok

4- this is just asking for trouble

5- uhhh ok

6- to much work for mods if you really want to change it you can ask a mod anytime

1- Fine by me (but leave the redirect in the old forum, so people will know where it went)

2- That's dumb.

3- OK.

4- OK.

5- Whatever. I don't care. No reason not to, though.

6- That's

7-

1. It'd be impossible to see which forum the thread was originally from. Why do you need easier access to closed topics anyway?

2. Reasons against this already mentioned...

3. This button already exists, it's the E-Mail button... MSN and Yahoo buttons exist because those are instant messengers... GMail is not. (unless you count Picasa Hello, but i don't think that uses gmail addresses)

4. Yeah, that one is good...

5. Neutral

6. The current "PM a Mod" system is in place so mods can keep track of these name changes (as far as I know) -- this is too much coding work to do something unecessary.

7. Neutral...

the GMAIL thing is dumb. It's an e-mail address therefore would be filed under 'e-Mail'. Ironically enough!

585660296[/snapback]

Agreed. There is nothing special about a Gmail account, and its not like you'd be showing off that you have one.

My 0,02$:

1: I think the Mods got a reason when they close a topic...and mostly its because the topic is senseless...so why should we keep them?

2: "Report"-Button?

3: No...as said before...there is a "Mail"-Button

4: (Y)

5: Not bad either....but whos gonna write them?

6: Why should a Member want to change his Username when he's got 1000 Posts. There is already a chnace to change the username...

7: Ok...good idea...

Thumbs up for commiting these Ideas!

1. We have one, it's private to the staff for good reason.

2, 3, 4. No - features are already there to do this if you so wish (i.e. email field, your profile)

5. Perhaps, I'll look into it

6. No, fairly obvious reasons...

7. Yeah, something we've done before but never really carried through much; again, i'll look into it..

tom :)

Was gonna say that first part myself but thanks for clarifying it. I think those ideas are what he wants and not that the community as a whole needs to benefit properly. We need to think more along the lines of something everybody will like and enjoy having as part of Neowin.

Also what Chode said. The forum is busy as it is as well so giving Moderators more to do is a big NO. Believe me, the Moderators can't always be here and they have enough going on here without having to have more things to manage put onto their hands.

1. What is the need for a "Trash" Forum? So you can look at closed threads?

3. Not everyone has Gmail, plus if you do you have probably put thats as your email address in your Profile for all members to see

4. OK idea, most neowinians are male's though FYI

5. if you want to write a review about games please submit it to the news desk, I doubt you review will be overlooked, we dont need a whole new forum for it

6. Very Bad idea, name changes would be going on ALL the time and it would be really hard to keep track of who is who, not only for us but for the staff also

7. Nice idea, we could probably do that.

1. Not going to happen, you should see some of the things that we move off the boards sometimes. We move them off public view for a reason, and they will stay off public view.

3. Use the E-Mail button

4. Possible, not really needed

5.Can already do that in the same section

6. No

7. Already Done... yearly thing

    • Frankly, I blame whoever is writing such articles. "A big improvement/update and/or new feature is now available to everyone! Also, use some unofficial tweak tool to enable it because it actually isn't available to you yet and might not in fact even be entirely ready or whatever, hence why it is perhaps not enabled for you*. But it's great and you should enable it!" I mean there's nothing wrong with sharing info about some feature you might need to enable via unofficial means, of course. It's just that these articles tend to essentially end up being two news pieces in one, and one of them tends to be a bit misleading. (*Yes, yes, the "it's a controlled rollout!" thing. Not a fan of that one either. The argument, not the actual rollout.)
    • Thank you. Will do. I read in the release notes that editor config might be at play here.
    • Actually, I think even Microsoft doesn't know how to control it
    • OpenAI is making Codex more useful in Chrome and the cloud by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI's Codex now has more than 5 million users, up nearly 4x from earlier this year. To further accelerate Codex's growth among developers, OpenAI today announced that it has agreed to acquire Ona, a company that builds secure cloud execution and orchestration technology for developers. Ona will enable developers to run Codex with persistent and controlled cloud infrastructure for long-running agentic workflows. Right now, most Codex execution happens locally on developers' laptops and PCs, and the agents work continuously for hours. Through Ona, OpenAI aims to make Codex agents keep working for days without being tied to a user’s local machine or an active session. This will be an important capability for enterprises that want to deploy AI agents in production while maintaining control over infrastructure, data, security boundaries, credential scope, logging, and review workflows. Like any acquisition, the deal is still subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Until the deal closes, OpenAI and Ona will continue to operate as separate companies. After closing, Ona’s team will join the Codex team to improve developer workflows. Alongside the Ona acquisition announcement, OpenAI today introduced a few Codex updates. Developers can now save Codex rate limit resets and use them later instead of losing them when they are not needed immediately. OpenAI is also adding a referral option where users can invite a friend to Codex and get a saved rate limit reset. OpenAI today also announced a developer mode for browser use in Chrome and the Codex in-app browser. With this mode, Codex can use the Chrome DevTools Protocol to debug web apps, inspect pages, and work more directly with browser-based development workflows. Developers can use this when they want Codex to profile JavaScript, inspect console output and network traffic, examine web page states including the DOM and applied styles, and more.
