Should I Get An iPod Shuffle?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I really do like the look of iPods but I can't afford and iPod or iPod mini so I really would like an iPod shuffle but I was wondering a few things about them,

1) How good are they?

2) Are they worth buying?

3) Do you have to use iTunes to put music on it?

4) When using it as a flash drive to hold files, does it require drivers or can u just plug it in?

5) How good is the battery?

6) Once the music is off it, can u copy it off of it onto another computer easily?

7) I'm looking at buying the dock to put in my room by my stereo so I can charge my iPod Shuffle and plug it into my stereo (I have an adapter for the headphone port, I know there is no connection on the dock). My question is can u listen to music while in the charger?

Thank you!

in my personal opinnion.. it's better to just get a 4GB mini... i tried out the shuffle while decideing what to buy and the mini for the price is a way better deal.. i know you said you cant afford it, but the shuffle to me is worthless for the money and features

Read both of those and if you're still having doubts, go to Google and type "ipod shuffle review" to read some more, don't ask people on a forum what you should buy because they will only give you their opinion which is pretty much useless. Reviews in general tend to be more unbiased. Have fun

yes, go to a website run by apple entusiasts and get a review from there. all the reviews on google are done by mac sites with die-hard apple lovers.

the only unbiased review an mp3 player can get is a list of specs, and the shuffle is sorely lacking in that area.

1. Fine, just like any other music player, in fact some say that it plays louder than other iPod models. the whole low quality thing that was mentioned earlier is untrue. You can load any bitrate you want, the quality depends on the user.

2. Yes

3. Yes (preferred and recommended method) There have been other utilites developed, but none of them compare with the ease and integration with iTunes.

4. ditto what was said earlier, should work with anythign that is compatible with PNP devices

5. 18hrs advertised, but some have gotten much more

6. huh?

Have you *read* those reviews?

I think what you meant by that also is if you fill up your ipod with songs and try to copy them to a friends computer. You can't do that because of copyright issues, but what you can do is if you wantd to transfer mp3s you can drag them on to the shuffle and then put them into whatever computer you want, but you wont be able to listen to the music while its on the shuffle if thats what you wanna do. You add the music in itunes to listen to, it cant be transferred to another computer.

yes, they said it was pretty.

585662658

That makes you look *real* smart

If you are wondering about price per megabyte, there is a chart in the second review

shuffle 512MB $99 $198 per gigabyte

shuffle 1GB $149 $149 per gigabyte

iPod 4G 20GB $299 $14.95 per gigabyte

So yeah it's way more expensive per gigabyte. The reviews talk about that and a few other things for those willing to read for themselves. A general trend is that the more GB you get the cheaper per GB it costs

yes, they said it was pretty.

Edit: they also said that it was cheaper per megabyte than the competition, which is a straight out lie. that right there takes away any credebility your reviews had.

585662658

So did you like read the first few sentences and then stop when you ran into that? Nice work man

no, it said it was cheaper per megabyte htan FLASH MP3 players from OTHER COMPANIES. that is a lie.

the point is, you can get more features for less money, and that is why you should buy something else. unless you are a trendwhore, there is absolutely no reason to get a shuffle from a technical POV.

That's your opinion but not everybody shops for electronics based on the amount of features per dollar. There is also the look and feel of the device, the relevance of the features, and the software you are using to take into consideration when making that kind of choice. So it's fine that you've made your choice based on your own factors but there's more to it then that. I read both of those reviews and didn't find them to be biased at all but they gave a general impression if whether it would meet your needs depending on what kind of user you are. Hope that helps you understand where I'm coming from.

but the shuffle doesnt have any features to be relevant. it plays music and is overpriced, that is all.

all the features in the shuffle can be found in other mp3 players, with the addition of EVEN MORE features for LESS money.

people buy the shuffle because its called the iPod Shuffle, and it comes with white headphones.

I don't disagree with that, but it's not the case for everyone. Obviously your opinion is pretty clear and it's a valid one, so I don't see any reason to continue talking about it. Cheers

If somethings overpriced, Apple will have a hard time selling them. The last time I checked, Apple was having a hard time with the massive amounts of orders. The point is, overpriced isn't something that is determined by just one person.

As for the shuffle, IMO, the best way to go is still the new iPod mini. $50 for 6 hour more battery life, a screen powering more features, and 4x the space. You might have to save up a bit thou - something worth learning to do IMO ;)

Exactly, I don't see why it's so hard for people to understand that.

1) They're good..?

2) Yes I think so, if you use usb flash drives often.. a 1gb one comes in handy.

3) No, you can use Winamp also.

4) You can just plug it in on XP systems.. not sure about others. (OS X will not require any extra drivers either probably)

5) I dont know yet...

6) Probably.. Just open the hidden folders in it..Havent tried tho so i dont know.

7) Music wont play while the shuffle is plugged in to a usb port. :(

I'd get one if you really think it'd be useful.. I use mine while mountain biking and working out. If i were you i'd save for a bit longer and go for a mini though.

Erm...aren't you contradicting yourself?

I mean you're suggesting an ipod mini is a better value than the shuffle, right?...So the Ipod shuffle is overpriced to some extent...

So you do not want reviews from mac websites ? Well how about this or this or this or this or this or this or this ?

I'm sure you'll come up with some weird "theories" again  Bring out the tin foil hats

    • You are clueless. The updates are done in the background so the next time you open Edge the updates are applied automatically. There is no need to close all your tabs. Just keep browsing like you normally do. Clearly you don't use Edge and are just one of those haters that complain for the sake of complaining.
    • I don't get this David. Can you explain it please.
    • Microsoft is busy. Lots of changes to be released imminently for Windows server or soon. Also, lots happening for next version as well. Third party virus scanning software is being moved out of Kernel mode to avoid repeat of Crowdstrike incident. Windows Protected Mode and Windows Ready Print no longer require third party print drivers to be installed. New storage stack being developed. New NVME drivers now available for Windows Server 2025 to improve local NVME drive performance by 60+ percent. NVME-Of of fabric being worked on for next release to improve network access to NVME drives. ReFs (next file system) now has ability to boot and will become default file system in next release of Windows Server. ReFs improves on NTFS in several areas including resiliency and reliability and scalability. New update stack is being worked on to unify Windows updates, and updates for drivers and first party/3rd party application software. A stricter and more robust third-party driver certification program (ODI) is being worked on to improve performance, thermals, battery life, and reliability on modern Windows hardware by tightening how OEMs and IHVs (Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, etc.) build and ship drivers. There is a tone more but too numerous to mention.
    • Now disable that stupid OneDrive backup request when Windows starts please. So unbelievably frustrating to only have “remind me later” instead of “no and never ask me again”
