Mods,

I know that there's a fix called looking at the date, but is there some way to implement a sunset rule on threads so that ones that are older than a certain length of time, say, a year. I know that I have accidently (and recently) posted replies to threads about a year old - just overlooking the date field.

Some threads deserve bumping, for example pinned threads and some important threads which aren't always constantly posted in. Locking old threads would be counter-productive.

what about a big red warning? maybe even make you aware by having to press an extra yes/no before replying

but I agree, some of the software/theme releases do idle for over a year but have good infomation that shouldn't be lost by widescale/automatic thread closures

I don't understand how you can 'accidently' post in a thread that's over a year old. You have to dig pretty deep to find one.

Sometimes people bump a thread on purpose so that it can catch others out! It has been done a few times that I have seen. I also think it would be a worthwhile thing to do.
