The Official Mac OS X "Tiger" Thread

Recommended Posts

Taken from ThinkSecret, the same news I commented on yesterday night.

Tiger Gold Master leaked

A 2.5GB disc image of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger appeared on the servers of highly regarded ripping groups this past weekend, some two weeks before its official release. Details are scarce on where the disc image, which installs Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger build 8A428, originated from but the file is slowly making its ways to more and more servers and will likely end up on file sharing networks later this week.

Apple has kept an extremely tight leash on Tiger, which was declared Gold Master at the start of the month, keeping the build out of the hands of all but a select few outside of Apple.

:shifty:

someone is going to get sued again...

Alright. Due to the high amount of moderating Tiger threads need, mainly because, well, we all know how Apple is...I've merged this topic, and the Tiger ui topic together. Expect a little oddness when merging two large topics. I didn't want to close one, as they both provided good discussion. I'm also stickying it, as it's the one Tiger thread that will be allowed to stay open until April 29.

My apologies for the threads that were "sacrificed". Most of the information discussed in those threads has been discussed in here already. Probably 2 or 3 times I should think :)

What thinking - "Wait a minute, who pinned my thread and edited the title?!" ;)

Radish?

Maybe just something to do with the music videos from the iTMS?? Although I don't understand why it would be labeled "movies" and "mpg".

Those have been there for quite some time, along with OGG & WMA...

I'm in 10.3.9 btw...

That would look better if the icons in the toolbar didn't have the white. And sorry to sound ignorant, but how did you make Mail look like that? Cheers.

If i took my time with it, they wouldn't but it was a quick thing just to prove a point.

Anyway, Once tiger is released (at the store) i'll make how-to's. I dont want to release any information/graphics and have apple get mad... I can deal without any lawsuits as of now.

just got this in my email from apple:

Come and celebrate the newest Apple Store.

The Apple Store, Bullring, is opening on April 29. Be one of the first to experience all the new Apple products, and attend the Tiger World Premiere event. Don't be late - the first 1400 customers get a free T-shirt.

:p

'Tis why I'm holding out till 10.4.1 to buy Tige:(:(

Radish?

why wait? you could buy now and wait for the patch before installing it - that way you dont have to wait for deliv:)y :) If i did that i know i wouldnt be able to wait without installing it!

OK, I'm REALLY getting annoyed at people saying that Macs won't boot from USB.? They will, end of story (at least most Macs made in the last 4 years or so will).:? As for the burner, there is also a utility called PatchBurn that will allow most burners to work natively with OS X.

I just plugged my iPod into my iBook G3 with a USB cable and it wouldn't boot, switched to firewire and it worked fine. Does it need to be USB 2.0 or something?

Nope, I've got a G3 iBook as well and I've been able to boot from USB. What did you use to format the drive (and what format did you use)?.

edit: Just noticed that you said you used an iPod. That may be different, but a regular external USB drive seems to work fine. I'll have to try it on my iPod mini sometime soon.

edit 2: is your iBook one of the Dual USB ones or the older ones (the colorful ones)? The Dual USB iBooks ones were the first Mac notebooks that could boot from USB.

Its a 900mhz G3 (dual usb), the last model before the G4s came out. The iPod has the tiger install data on it.

The problem may actually be with the USB cable, it was my sisters from before she switched to a mac. She uses firewire now, and left the old USB cable in my room. It is in pretty bad condition, so it may not work. The iPod did show the "Do Not Disconnect" warning however, so I assumed something was happening. USB 1 is slow anyway, so I have no need to use it, but its nice to know it would work if I needed.

Macs will boot usb just fine

Mac OS on the other hand, will not boot from USB

I've booted OS 9 from a 256MB USB Flash Thumb Drive, so I know it will work. I'm starting to think that the problems some people have lie with the particular chipset of the USB drive. I have been trying it with several of my USB drives, and some work and some don't. That leads me to believe that it is more drive-dependent.

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.

    • I've never even heard of this browser before seeing this article. How does it differ from other browsers?
    • Fixing things? Have you ever tried linux? Everything works out of the box nowadays in most common hardware. This includes Wifi and Bluetooth. If anything, if they return back to windows is because they haven't found an equivalent program which often used on windows.
    • 18 months ago I bought the 4TB variant for $380 CDN. Now it is $1500 CDN [$949 US].
