Boeing 787
:D :D :D It's no big secret that AMD is scheduled to launch its dual-core Server and professional workstation Opteron processors later in the year. However details of what's set to be let loose to hunt down Intel's recently announced Pentium Extreme Edition 840 have, up till now, been well hidden... HEXUS can exclusively reveal that the CPU is to be named the AMD Athlon 64 X2 It will be available at least in the following models: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Our source in Greenbriar also confirms that AMD currently has no plans to introduce 'FX' variants of its dual-core desktop processors. The flagship AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ will have both its cores operating at 2.4GHz, the same frequency as the AMD Athlon 64 4000+, and we'll be surprised if this doesn't rape the already impressive Pentium Extreme Edition 840 we reviewed here. Xtra stuff later... Boeing 787
socket 939??? I thought they were gonna be socket 940 only... 585777981 Athlon 64 x2 will be socket 939, the Opteron is socket 940. I figure this: Athlon 64 x2 4400+ = $250 Athlon 64 x2 4600+ = $450 Athlon 64 x2 4800+ = $700 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/308597-athlon-64-4800-x2/#findComment-585778699 Share on other sites

Anyone care to explain the inner-workings of this Dual Core tech? 585780401 It's two cores instead of a single core. It works like dual cpu machine but without the expensive motherboard. Dual core 'can' increase performance by 50-80% on applications that are multithreaded. Some apps will show no improvements until they are rewritten, which I bet will also happen. The Operating System will be smother and won't freeze up when trying to do two intense things at once. Play a game and scan for viruses it will tear through without freezing up. Two cores are better then one. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/308597-athlon-64-4800-x2/#findComment-585780716 Share on other sites
