[Snooker] World Championships 2005

Recommended Posts

Another year, another Championship. I hope they don't switch venues like they were planning, I still have to see some matches at The Crucible.

For Updates see: BBC Snooker

What a fantastic opening match yesterday. Shocked O'Sullivan came back but what do you expect from the world number one. Great to see Hunter also playing well.

Where's Ding Jun Hui. Shocked to see he is not playing

World number one Ronnie O'Sullivan produced a sensational recovery to defeat Stephen Maguire 10-9 in the first round at The Crucible.

Resuming 5-4 ahead, O'Sullivan opened up with a 96 to extend his lead.

O'Sullivan's excellence seemed to bring out the best in Maguire and the Scot won four straight frames on his way to a 9-7 advantage.

Under pressure, O'Sullivan showed nerves of steel to level at 9-9 and a 68 break sealed a brilliant win.

The Billiardrome

I have always loved snooker, and always follow Ronnie O'Sullivan.  This years tournament looks like its going to be a cracker, shame about hunter though.

Interesting Billiardrome....Would be good to keep it in Sheffield..Could never see it anywhere else but there....

Shame hunter went out...I can understand why he lost really..mind is elsewhere which is understandable

wtf is snooker?

History of Snooker

On topic, Fantastic to see Davis to win again, great match, 47 years old and he can still play, a true legend. O'Sullivan also won though that was quite a close match.

O'sullivan still the favourite though :)

cause snooker was cool back when....o wait, it was never cool.

Please don't post if you don't like snooker, Its offtopic.

On topic Quarter final draw looks good:

R O'Sullivan (Eng) v P Ebdon (Eng)

S Murphy (Eng) v S Davis (Eng)

S Hendry (Sco) v M Stevens (Wal)

A McManus (Sco) v I McCulloch (Eng)

Great to see Murphy play so well, but I still Ronnie is going to walk away with the title.

    • Yes, I actually glossed over the Linux part from the OP. You could always go for a 9070 XT and if you really want to play Ray Traced games in the future, GeForce Now is pretty damn good on Linux https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidias-native-geforce-now-app-for-linux-bridges-the-gaming-gap-hands-on/
    • One reason it might be running hotter is dust build up within the cooling or perhaps the paste has dried out. You could always try repasting your old GPU and cleaning the cooler. Your experience in Linux will be much better with an AMD GPU; the performance in gaming is much closer to Windows than nVidia would be. I personally think on Windows, AMD drivers are junk.
    • I reviewed it back in March, but I didn't have a 5070 at the time https://www.neowin.net/reviews/amd-rx-9070-review-vs-rtx-5070-4070-and-rx-9070-xt-7800-xt--just-good-enough/ When I reviewed the 9070 I did have a 5070 to compare it against, so the scores are there for the 9070 XT. it outperforms the 5070 in raster, and is barely neck and neck in Ray Tracing. So it's better than a 5070 in everything but Ray Tracing where it is neck and neck, or just under. To be honest, the uplift from 3080 when it was new to the 9070 XT is not as great a step up. If you can find a used 4080 Super for around the same money, you would probably be better off, but if you only want to buy new then the 16GB 9070 XT is the best value for money in its category.
    • I really hope the author's health is ok. Squirreling away a official backup of this software. Looks like the internet archive already cached a copy as well - https://web.archive.org/web/20...ldbit-soft.fi/software.html
    • AMD is supported out of the box in linux because of their open source driver. Nvidia does not. All my systems are amd and all of them work nicely on linux arch without doing anything.
