Over-riding Refresh Rates

Well i just installed Ubuntu ( AND LOVE IT)

But i want to change my resolution, the resolution is there but it only shows 60hertz when on Windows i use it at 85, is there any way to over-ride it?

Resolution i want is 1280x768.

Edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf (as root) and scroll down to the Section "Monitor" part, then set the HorizSync and VertRefresh to the values advised in the monitor's manual. That should solve the problem (unless you set the refresh values far too high and kill your monitor :pinch: ).

Well, if you can set your desktop at 1280 @85Hz without problems on Windows then just rising the maximum VertRefresh value to 85 shouldn't hurt.

I have never seen an xorg.conf that didn't have these values in there. Could you post yours so we can take a look at it?

Otherwise, if they really aren't in there, you need to add them into your "Monitor" section. Use the following as a guide:

	HorizSync	28-96
	VertRefresh	43-85

I can;t even find any info on those, try setting this in your Xfree/xorg config file's monitor section:

Section "Monitor"

....

HorizSync 30-72

VertRefresh 50-100

....
