[Definitive] Xbox 360 Thread

So whats the final verdict on noise/heat/overheating? For some strange reason Australia is getting a bundle with PDZ + a Game this week (even though we get the console in March :\), so I wouldn't want to buy it all and then come release time find that I've been completely turned off ithe console because of its issues. :p

Noise: Not a problem. It's audible, yeah, but you can't even hear it when you're playing a game.

Heat/Overheating: Not a problem. Just stick your power supply in an open place and not smashed up in a tight corner, and I doubt there'll be any problems. Mine is sitting behind my TV and has been there since launch day, and I've had no problems.

Yeah, obake is right, the "issues" aren't really issues, it's just that you hear about them because the few people who have them complain everywhere.

Read the manual, on the 2. opening it is written in bold letters do not place the power supply on a soft surface such as carpets. Most people with problems did not even open the manual for crying out loud. They just start whining to everyone without even considering it might be in the manual.

Hardly anyone reads manuals these days.

Yes that's why so many people are running their consoles on HDTV with 480i  and post about how disappointed they are with the graphics and other BS. I thought anyone with common sense would at least open the manual and run through it quickly, at least few pages! Not to read everything but

now that you mention it, ...... here is some info. that some people may not be aware of:

Word of WARNING HDTV owners!

Ok so everyone should know this by now,but if you don't i wanna make you people aware so that your (Euro) launch goes as smooth as possible!.

YOU MUST switch the switch FROM sdtv(Normal tv) TO hdtv(high def) with the HD component cables with the premium Xbox360.

You may think this thread is a waste of time...but i've read a fair few who didn't know about this.

[source: http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=396635 ]

another point that perhaps a greater percentage of people may not be aware of:

- using the VGA cable over the component cable may result in a noticeable difference in picture quality on certain TVs

Well I've heard that the noise level is different from console to console? And people complaining about how it heats up a room? :p

So if your not supposed to place the power supply on carpet.. you have to get a piece of wood or something?

I do not know why people are so excited with the Xbox 360's hardware. I do not think there is anything special to it. It is basically the GameCube hardware with 2 more cpus, upgraded memory, upgraded video card, and it's still using the DVD. Even the Sony PR rep said this sounds more like Xbox 1.5. Usually consoles use cutting edge technology, but this seems like a hardware upgrade.

As far as I know, the PS3's GPU is very nice thanks for Cell's help. Some people say the PS3 GPU is only based off the G70 core. I think It's funny how people judge a console to a PC, the PS3 to an Xbox 360 or they suck all together. Comparing the performance of PC GPUs with that of the XBox 360 and PS3 is rather silly. For the most part the two GPUs are very limited by PC CPUs as well as the relativity slow bus bandwidth. As it stands, the 7800GTX is starved of data until you reach 2000x2000+ resolution as is the X1800XT to a lesser degree.

Comparing them also forfeits the incredible advantage the Xenos (360) has with its 10 MB daughter embedded DRAM framebuffer which both the 7800GTX and the X1800XT lack. Free 4x FSAA should allow for quite a performance increase which actually increases in advantage the higher the resolution. It is also clocked much lower than the X1800XT at 500MHz which is a rather large difference.

As for the PS3 RSX, it is not simply a "upgraded version of the G70 core" as the transistor count simply does not add up. The RSX is still not complete to this date but Nvidia has also now stated that the RSX is based off of the new G71 core rather than the G70. However that does not mean it is simply a "upgraded version of the G71" either. There are talks from developers that range from the RSX having a type of unified shader system to the RSX offloading all vertex shader calculations to the Cell which would give the RSX a pixel shader performance well beyond anything available in the current market or in the near future. Also the Cell CPU is said to be able to help out with shader calculations as well offering a type of procedural processing that is impossible on current PCs. The performance of two "SLI 6800Ultras' is just a total random guess by some people since that is what the PS3 development hardware is equipped with. It is also said to have some type of custom Shader Model 3.0 which is supposed to allow for better looking effects over the standard model. We'll see about that though.

An nVidia spokesperson was quoted in PlayStation Magazine as saying that the 7800GTX "shares a lot of similar inner workings with the PS3's RSX chip, only it (the 7800GTX) isn't nearly as fast (as the RSX). So when it comes to the RSX, it's really hard to say at this point if it is hype or if there is any truth to this. I don't think anyone should judge each console yet or compare wich is the best, although I vote for PS3. The X360 launch games were pretty much built on Apple G5s on an aged Radeon and only worked on for two months on final development kits. People don't take this into consideration because they don't know squat about the consoles. People judge both developers and the hardware on launch games that were ports or built from a lower spec machine. Most developers (90%+?) have never coded for multi-core CPU or a Unified Shader GPU. It's going to take some time for both the X360 and PS3 with their new architectures for anything 'next-gen' to come out of them. At best most developers for next-gen consoles will probably be able to pump out games that would look like super high-res Xbox 1 games with more effects and a better framerate until they dig deeper into the systems.

I queued up at Virgin last friday for the release.

It came to a bloke handing out the 7 tickets he had for the 7 systems he had and theree were about 10 - 15 of us.

He handed me one and i was well chuffed.

Only to turn around and see a girl waiting who didn't get a ticket, she had been there since 3 a.m.... :|

I rolled up at 7 waited for an hour and got one.

Moral Dilemna

I gave her my ticket, gutted. :(

I stayed around and got talking o one of the staff and i said i know you're going to say you don't know when you're getting any more in but is there anyway you can let me know or can i reserve one? Obviously no was the answer.

But i persuaded him to take my mobile # and sure enough bout 10 mins ago i got a call saying they had just recieved 2 core systems and that he would reserve me one for an hour (naughty).

Got ready to go and got another call saying that when he went down to get one somebody had already sold one, and the other was reserved for a preorder that was a faulty system.

Absolutely gutted.

Are there better alternatives than the standard xbox live headset that comes with the 360 or are most pretty happen with the included headset?

If your interested in a quick mod, this works very well

http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/mods/xbox-36...ing-diagram.htm

Other than that, there are no alternatives right now, well madcatz makes one but its just like the one included, imo the microsoft headset is garbage. Mod yours and you will be happy.

Craer

Does anyone know if you can be on Xbox live but have your friends list turned off? As I hear you can only have one gamertag per Live account or something, so it would suck for my bro to be on and my friends trying to chat with him.

You could always try going to personal settings by pushing the guide button then to Online status and changing it to Offline, that might solve your problem.

- D,Ranged -

you guys are so lucky to have the 360 now :( still a bit over 2 months till release here  i got a copy of perfect dark zero, a controller that want to be played but i have no console lol

Just play PD64.. and then sit there with your controller pretending your playing it while someone else actually plays. :)

What?

    • RevPDF 4.5.0 by Razvan Serea RevPDF is a free, fully offline PDF editor for Windows, macOS, and Linux that lets you edit text and images directly inside PDF files — no internet connection, no account, and no cloud uploads required. Unlike bloated alternatives that demand subscriptions and constant connectivity, RevPDF fits in under 60MB on desktop while delivering a complete editing toolkit: annotate, redact, sign, compress, split, merge, convert, and reorganize pages, all processed locally on your device. Smart font matching ensures edited text blends seamlessly with the original, and multi-language support includes RTL scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew. Where most PDF editors force you to choose between features and simplicity, RevPDF manages both. You can build interactive forms from scratch with text fields, checkboxes, and dropdowns, permanently redact sensitive data before sharing, draw freehand on contracts and diagrams, and add custom watermarks — all without a single file leaving your machine. Edit Text and Images Directly Inside PDFs RevPDF supports true inline PDF editing — not just annotation layers on top of a document, but actual modification of existing text and images within the file. A smart font-matching engine identifies the font used in the original document and applies it automatically when you make edits, so changes blend naturally with the surrounding content. You can reposition elements, resize images, and update text across single pages or entire documents. RevPDF 4.5.0 release notes: This is one of the biggest updates to RevPDF yet. A lot of things people have been asking for are finally here. New Features Auto Redaction Permanently redact sensitive text and areas from your PDFs before sharing. Clean, irreversible, and fully offline. Comments, Links & Bookmarks Add comments for review, insert clickable links, and create bookmarks to jump around long documents without scrolling forever. Find & Replace Search across the whole document and replace text in one go. Long overdue. Split Pages Vertically or Horizontally Split any page down the middle, vertically or horizontally. Perfect for scanned books or double-page spreads. New Drawing Tools More tools for freehand drawing and markup, better for annotations, sketches, and detailed notes. Continuous Scrolling in Editor The editor now scrolls continuously through pages instead of jumping between them. Working through long documents is a lot smoother now. PDF Metadata Editor View and edit the metadata stored inside your PDFs, including title, author, subject, and keywords. Better Font Matching Text edits now blend in more naturally by doing a better job of matching the original font. Tabbed PDF Viewer Open multiple PDFs at once in tabs and switch between them without going back to the home screen. Add Links Insert hyperlinks anywhere in your PDF, to external URLs or to other pages within the document. Share & Print Shortcuts Share or print directly from the editing screen, home screen, and viewer. No extra steps. Minor Updates Paste images directly from clipboard into your PDF New image editing tools for more control over images inside documents Bug Fixes Fixed file saving issues on Windows and Linux Everything still works fully offline. • Interesting. I'm not using a VPN with my phone. I tried though my home internet (Rogers) and my cellular internet (Telus) using their respective DNS servers and both trigger the dialog above.
